Very small motor and rather compact floor selector. Nice of the mechanic to show the machine room. It looks like kone has the same van's for their service engineers.

Yes it was very nice of him. He clearly understood we were enthusiasts and very interested in the topic. I just wish i could understand the finnish language too, or that he spoke swedish.

Interesting outside floor indicator! I have never seen this type of indicator in real life. You were lucky a technician from KONE was here. If I ever got stuck, I would try to ring the bell with the morse code for SOS (... --- ...)

I Think one of the Three 3-phase main fuses were blowned. Giving only 2 phases to the motor gives this low speed, and overload, wich can burn the motor up. However, a protector for this kind of cause were activated, disabling the elevator and making you stuck. However, without it, the elevator would end in a disaster... The protector must be reset itself manually in the machineroom, wich is a good oppurtunity for a Tech to look after the fault triggering it in the first Place. :)

I thought about that too. Could very well be the case. But i didn't see the technician replace any fuses and according to Kaspers comment, the technician said it was the contactors and that they were "in final"... whatever that means
@SummerADDE_Elevators

Heritage Elevators a possible fault would lie with the contactors, specifically, the Down contactor... It might not connect the 3rd phase as it is supposed to do. that contactor failedm in other owrds,,,

At the beginning of the video when the lift was called down minute: 0:35 one phase was already missing, you can hear in the video that the motor is already struggling (also because the lift is downhill with the cabin empty, so the counterweight and heavier than the cabin) Then when he arrived on the ground floor you could see the difference in height. Because if in the case the lift is single speed, the limit switch must be positioned about 100mm before the exact level. Being that in this case it takes more time from the moment the brake blocks the motor until the cabin stops. But since a phase was missing, the motor was slower and therefore as soon as the limit switch on the ground floor was activated since it is mounted 100mm before the exact level, the cabin stopped with a minute difference in height: 1:20 After that, going uphill there is always a phase missing, but in this case the engine struggled less due to the fact that the cabin is half empty, the counterweight being heavier than the cabin helps uphill. But in the meantime, when a phase is missing, the motor overheats quickly, so much so that once the lift starts downhill, the motor protector is activated by deactivating the motor minute: 2:22 In this case, the motor protection must be reset manually.

The video gets better and better and better! Old mechanical parts, great motor sound, getting stuck, motor room :D The only mechanical floor display indicator i've seen was an Fortuna one, although it was a dial. So this must been mechanically driven from the chain that runs up to the floor selector - That chain and the grey box on the left at 5:27 must be the OLD floor selector? I can see the new one (wow that's amazing!!) in the control box at 9:00 - same technique as the Express Lifts selectors like this one...kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y2m7anqFmaeLfdE see 3:55. That's an amazing mini-selector that's probably linked with an optical/magnetic device in the shaft - so yep, not original but this is still fascinating mechanic gear! Wish I could understand what the mechanics were saying, but I understand that, when the lift started to go down, it went very slowly then stopped - so this is when it was on 2 phases? Wow what a video, lucky you got stuck, and it get's a very rare favourite vote from me. 10/10

Thanks for your great comment! 5:27 looks like the old floor selector indeed. I will take a look at the video you linked. And yeah! i was very lucky to get stuck :D An experience most people would consider to be awful turned out to be really good!

The cause of when you got stuck was that the controllers contactors was "in final", so they had to get replaced with new ones. It's normal with old elevators ;-)
@HeritageElevators

Is that what the technician told you? What does "in final" mean?

I also wonder what "In final" it means... maybe you can explain in Swedish, if that would be easier for yourself to do?
@Finntrans

They got used so much after all these years, so they went very weak that day you went stuck. They didn't give enough electricity to the motor. That's being "in final" to me... But the technician said the contactors should get replaced with newer ones.

Oh dear it got a VF mod in the 90s, but at least everything else in the cab are still original. Never seen a mechanical floor indicator like that before. The only mechanical floor indicator I've seen around me is a dial indicator on a 1996 Mitsubishi elevator but with lights on the numbers, maybe it was a custom indicator back then (elevation.wikia.com/wiki/File:Received_1078215038871480.jpeg). Still a nice elevator anyway!

Hello, Could you please tell me how it worked ? I mean, did the Kone engineer go back to the motor room a second time to show it to you after rescuing you from the car ? Also how did you manage to call him as there is only a bell and no phone in this lift ? Thank's !
@HeritageElevators

Yes. After I got out, we went and saw the machine room. The elevator has two-way communication installed, as required by law.
@psirvent8
@psirvent8 3 жыл бұрын
@@HeritageElevators Thank you very much for the reply. I know the law requires two-way comm to be installed but trust me a lot of old lifts with only a bell do still exist. Ok so as I understand the engineer simply did open the door with his triangle key to let you out and THEN you all went to the motor room ?
