Part 1 of the sixth video of a series of videos presenting a free online machine shop program (lessons) for novice machinists. More specifically, this video introduces us to materials used in the shop and their properties. These videos are to be watched in conjunction with my particle videos as well as my little quickie video answers. All my videos can be found on my website THATLAZYMACHINIST.COM it's free and always will be! Thanks for watching! Marc L'Ecuyer

The attractive force is love; love binds the universe together - both in the visible and invisible realms. I am certain that is why I love my machines and materials, and they love me! Life is wonderful, mysterious and filled with the attractive force. Must be an aspect of love that attracts me to your video presentations. An alloy, a compound or a composite relationship? It matters even when the relationship is working because we all want to know and to worship, not just worship the wonderment of this creation. You help us to know and that is greatly appreciated and valued. Keep up the good and wonderful work, Marc. Best and thankful regards, jim ps. know and worship, good and wonderful, best and thankful are examples of alloy, covalent bond and ionic bond respectively. Correct me if I'm wrong. ;-))

Hi Jim, it is always fun to hear from you. How can I disagree? You are in a fine form and your verve reflects what I mentioned in the short introductory note of this video. Light, hope and romanticism are returning to Greenland! Marc L'Ecuyer

It is absolutely unbelivable, i have been in what could be translated to Collage for several years, i moved around a fair bit and thus had a variaty of teachers, i gave lessons in math physics and chemestry and yet i have never heard this subject presented in sutch an easy understandable and well thought out presentation. I whish more teachers had your Talent to Transport Information instead of hoping to confuse theyr audiance in order to camoflage theyr incapabilaty.... Once again i cannot thank you enough and beg of you to continue educating people...

Machinists like Marc require a tangible understanding. They need the knowledge to make parts, not just to pass written tests.

Thanks Glen it is a lot of work but I would rather call it "fun that takes a long time to complete" and comments like yours makes it all worthwhile! Marc L'Ecuyer

Nuclear force is sometimes referred to as the strong force or strong interaction force. An equally unimaginative name for one of the four fundamental interactions of nature.

Thanks MrShobar for all the great comments and thanks for getting that my nuclear force comment had to do with the drabness of the name for something so fundamental to all that exist. I would never pretend that I understand all that much about it but I do find it amazing. Marc

Blessed is the Man who gives his learning freely, doubly blessed is the Man who presents his knowledge clearly, so you are doubly blessed. And those of us that learn from your teaching are blessed as well with a new responsibility to pass it on. Chuck KC MO - USA

I really appreciate your methods of relaying these concepts in a way that doesn't get the students (us) bogged down in order to progress. For example, the way you explained polymers without requiring a prerequisite chemistry course first. Lay down basic concepts and keep moving forward. I think that is a very effective technique. Required knowledge presented in a practical manner. For those who desire the details, let them go and dig deeper on the topics as we rapidly learn machining skills....I don't want to go and learn organic chemistry before I can get past the relevancy of polymers as they relate to machining before moving on....just as an example. I learn something from each of your videos...even when you are covering very basic topics. Thank you for the efforts, they are appreciated... People, spread the link to his channel to similarly interested people out there!

Nice basic explanation. I wish some of my intro to Mat Sci profs could have started with something like that.

Hi Marc, an ion walks into a bar and sits down, the bartender looks at him and says man you look terrible! The ion says yea I know, I lost an electron last night. The bartender asks are you sure? To which the ion replies, yes...i'am positive.
