Thanks to your explanation I have understood what sintering is, especially the "soldering" part of it.

Thank you, Mark! Your lesson is so interesting. Now I construct spiral antenna and have berillium bronze fot this. But it is so soft, oh. It's ok, as bronze (raw material) is in tempering state and need to be aneling on 320C for make it strong.

Very popular in the manufacture of stainless parts for the medical industry is that powder metal compressed and sintered! but May I ask how do they make parts that are harden? I have seen some really high quality gears in some of the most popular hand tools and was wondering what would be the procedure to make this harden parts?
@THATLAZYMACHINIST9 жыл бұрын
Migueldeservantes Hi Miguel, the process is the same but the part would be quenched after sintering. If the powders are made of medium or high carbon steels, the part will react the same as any steel would to quenching and tempering. It is important to remember that hi carbon steel has a lower melting point than low carbon steel. I hope this helps, Marc L'Ecuyer

It is once again a pleasure to watch your lessons... I am just wondering in german Bronze is anykind of alloy with copper aßs its Major ingredient "Messing" however is copper and Zink so it can be said (and leads to allot of confusion if you actualy say it) that Messing is a Bronze ant that what is commonly known as Bronze (copper tin lead, or copper Aluminium) is but one Form of Bronze (basicaly Bronze is to copper what Steel is to Iron) is it the Same in english or are brass and Bronze mutual exclusive?
@THATLAZYMACHINIST9 жыл бұрын
Zeugschmiede/Toolforge Hi, if I can simplify as much as possible I would say that here in Canada brass is copper and zink. Copper and anything else is bronze. They are mutually exclusive mostly for their properties. As a general rule, brass is ductile and malleable and bronze is not. Thanks for watching and for commenting. Marc
