So thankful for you that you found water close enough to the house site. The road looks good with minimal disturbance.

That is great news! I am so happy for you. Given what I know about your awareness of water consumption, I am fairly confident that this well will supply water for many years to come. Your effective and efficient use of the resource will make all the difference. Of course, I'm looking forward to future developments of rain water catchments on the land. 😉 Successfully moving that convoy of trucks across the land is a good indicator that you have a passable track. Congratulations 👍 All the best my friend!

It's possible you've struck "fossil water" - I would have a sample sent off for a stable isotope analysis in case you're curious. Fossil water is water from an aquifer that isn't recharged in our time. I'm happy that you did at least find water, and I hope that what little amount of rain you do get serves as a useful augmentation. If you can grow trees, consider growing them a couple meters north (equatorward; equivalent to south side for me) of the house if you worry about excessive thermal gain.

You may very well be right. The only thing that made us think differently was the looser sedimentary materials that accompanied the breaks (and perhaps get seepage from the mountains nearby). Either or, it should be treated as finite and valuable. It will be at most, a support source. Catchment is my passion.

Have to ask, in the beginning of video, is that the slope that you spoke of in Part.1? Looks firm to carry the red Truck. 👍 Another day of great work done. Creepy storm 😊

I don't know how many animals that you are planning to keep, but to me 1000 liters per hour, lets keep it at the low side of the estimation, sounds like a substantial amount of water. Especially if the water is only for domestic use. Or even if it is used for irrigation in combination with the natural rainfall and the principles of permaculture. I am optimistic about it. Especially when you can fill up some water storage tanks. In any case it is a life saver during the worst droughts. 👍

Spot on. I think the reason we'd like to have "larger numbers", is to feel secure about it's future. But, it is a lot yes. Needing more than that should definitely generate questions. We will be using a 500/h pump for this, and only use it for domestic/basic use. Rain catchment, as we have it now, must definitely continue to be a major player. Thanks for the comment. It made me realise that I didn't express enough gratitude for what we got in the new well!
@insAneTunA
@insAneTunA 7 ай бұрын
hahaha it is okay, I think that you expressed enough gratitude. And I think that it is very normal to have that worried feeling. It is the same feeling as buying paint and having worries that you might not have bought enough paint. But when you start to do the calculations, and even if you would split the expected capacity in half to 12.000 liters a day, and assuming that you have some sort of water storage tank, you could still fill a small pool with fresh water every single day with that amount of water. So you are more than good to go with 1000 liters an hour. 👍🙂@@SimpleEarthSelfReliance

You have a wealth of water how. What are you farming?
@SimpleEarthSelfReliance
@SimpleEarthSelfReliance 5 ай бұрын
It seems like a wealth, but we have 2-3 inches of rain a year, sometimes worse. In terms of the well, it's definitely "a lot" for our water wise, sensitive use of it. I would always appreciate a larger "yield", to feel safer about the well's future, but don't need more. We farm goats, chickens (historically rabbit & sheep) as well as vegetable/other growing stuff. Busy with a reboot to streamline things into the permaculture design. Thanks for coming, hope to chat again.

I feel bad for the drill rig hand losing the crawler gear (seen in subtitles) :( Are they expats from the US, or is the company owned by a US company, or why the letters "USA"?
@SimpleEarthSelfReliance
@SimpleEarthSelfReliance 5 ай бұрын
They have a large arsenal of imported US machines and there's some other background I assume that made them fans enough to follow through. Will definitely ask them about it some more when we meet again. 🌱 PS: I also felt bad. He didn't know or expect it until he was on this side of the hill.

Hi Neels. Waar is jy waar soveel slange is? We get a fair amount but not more than I'd expect for the environment. Occasional puffie or cobra, but not that common. Seeing the harmless little guys more often.

@@neelsscheepers8841 Oh ek kan nogal dink. Ons boomslang het n swart kleur hier in die weskaap, maar soos die kobra, baie skaam en mens kom nie naby dit nie.
