New camera? The video quality seems improved. I bought my -second- bottle of Molly-dee last summer. There's still a little in the -first- bottle I bought back in the early 1990's??. I'm 58 yrs old.......I think it will be the last bottle I need to purchase. lol. Once again, you have a knack for picking great music for your videos.

Same camera and setting. After editing, I am just processing it at a much higher bitrate. I'm glad you noticed. That bottle of moly I think I've had since 2001. It's like anti-seize. The bottle never runs out. The best tapping fluid I've used was some blue stuff from Valenite years ago, ValTap, I think? I used it in some other shop, but never found it for sale anywhere. The old Magic tap with trichloroethane 1,1,1, was great too.

Yes, old Magic Tap was good stuff. Also years ago, I had some really dark thick stuff called Honey Kut. It was AMAZING with drilling steel, but a few days later, the chips and drill press table were all brown rust.

Hi Arnold, I would like to buy your vapour blasting cabinet conversion plans but can I just ask what a rough idea of cost would be to do the conversion? assuming I have already a harbour freight style diy sand blast cabinet. Also do you have plans for the vapour blasting gun you have built in this video? Many thanks Stu

When they leer and jeer, you can tell them a lot of machinists do it. A point is a point I guess. I've seen a few guys using them as center punches too and who knows what else. I have a ground center pin in my box somewhere, but it's handy just to grab a tap on the shelf next to me.

The 'boss' is always questioned as to his technique in the shop it seems. Wait until you have employees..it's coming. My employees were gobsmacked last week when I made a rotary welding table in less than 5 minutes with an old rotary table, a Ryobi cordless drill and a Kant clamp to "precisely" dial-in the trigger speed. Cringe-worthy, but it worked. Would love to understand how much airflow you had going through the new gun..looked massive!! Impressive results with it however. Really cuts down on time in the cabinet I bet.
@ArnoldsDesign
@ArnoldsDesign 6 жыл бұрын
Sounds like a good idea actually, with the drill powered rotary welding table. I might try that sometime. I don't know about the air flow. I haven't bought an air flow meter yet, but am planning too. It doesn't seem like my compressor is running more than usual,but the new nozzle is saving me quite a bit of processing time.
@wxfield
@wxfield 6 жыл бұрын
Meh..it worked and we got the job done quickly. I have tasked someone with building a more permanent table for welding, but it's taken them a week to put a plan together so I may just take them to a salvage yard near us and hand-hold them thru making one next week. Getting customer work done was always the priority when I worked in my Dad's shop as a kid. Engineers today really don't have a lot of 'get-it-done' experience or attitude. At times, it seems like I'm the old Sergeant breaking in the new troops telling them to forget everything they learned in school: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qYWudJpjqst7q68m15s

I have a long sweep 90° barbed air fitting that I tried to make lines parallel, but I've found that it interferes with the back of my hand while blasting, so I ended up rotating it to one side or the other depending on which hand I'm blasting with. I found a straight fitting is the easiest for me. I have considered the 45° attachment, but haven't tried it yet. As far as plans go, I'm still working on them, but they are a ways off.

Arnold, I am a uni researcher from the UK, very nice nozzle there. I am working on a particle delivery system for blasting sand/ash into an aerospace system (e.g. jet engine/etc). I am trying to develop a system that is able to control the sand injection flow-rate and the particle velocity (hopefully), I think these are too fast for my application. I am also hoping to control the spray patterns to make sure there are not fully concentrated in the center. From your experience could you advise if I could do it with a stainless steel tube + orifice plate? (To create the suction). I believe I am able to control the system through pressure, flow-rate and orifice/venturi diameter and the convergent/divergent outlet.
@ArnoldsDesign
@ArnoldsDesign 5 жыл бұрын
I just saw your question. I know they sell suction particle devices for moving materials. I agree that you would have to experiment with pressure, flows, and orifices. I don't use a venturi tube here. Instead the low pressure is created by the jet itself. I am able to lift crushed glass into the air stream at 20 psi. My spray patterns are fairly uniform.
@superturkeylegs
@superturkeylegs 10 ай бұрын
An automated pressure blast system may do the trick. Use an automatic plunger style abrasive metering valve for better control of flow. The guys at 10x Engineered Materials make great blast media, I believe their EpiX product line is slated for more precise surface prep applications. It's affordable, safe, and very efficient. Best of luck!

@ArnoldsDesign
@ArnoldsDesign 6 жыл бұрын
Glass beads don't cut or clean well, or remove oxide unless you turn the pressure up really high. At those pressures the beads smash on impact with the parts and you end up with crushed glass powder after a few blasting cycles anyway. Buying crushed glass in the first place is much cheaper than buying glass beads, so it is something to consider.

How do you agitate the slurry?
@ArnoldsDesign
@ArnoldsDesign 6 жыл бұрын
I buy it pre-agitated. The workers at the packing plant verbally abuse the media as it's being bagged, so when the customer gets it, it is thoroughly pissed and ready to go. Really though, I pump water into jets in the slurry basin. This keeps the media in suspension.

You should make and sell them. Looks like it works great....i'd buy one. I'm converting my cabinet over to a vapor blast/wet blast set-up. But instead of slurry in the bottom of cabinet, I'm draining into a barrel underneath which holds the pump and slurry. Leaves gun then drains into barrel....and repeat. I'll have a couple different barrels with different medias already set up, when I need to switch media I'll just swap out barrels. Hoping it works as well as I plan.
@ArnoldsDesign
@ArnoldsDesign 6 жыл бұрын
Sounds like you're off to a good start. One thing about changing out barrels. They will be heavy, especially if you leave the pump in place. Unless you have a pump for each barrel, it might good just to use the one barrel. If you pull the pump each time, the media will still remain at the bottom, so when you go to put the pump back in, the media will not let the pump set on the bottom. If in instead you pump out the slurry mixture first before changing out barrels, you might as well just use one barrel, and change out slurries in it. Would be less work in the end. I've experienced this firsthand.
@bradorman1051
@bradorman1051 6 жыл бұрын
@@ArnoldsDesign Planned on having a dedicated barrel and pump for each abrasive and having the barrels on casters so it should be a simple matter of rolling 1 barrel out and rolling another barrel in. What type of pump are you using? Right now I just have a utility pump to keep the slurry moving and the blast nozzle is just using typical syphon feed. I'm trying to figure out the best way to also pump slurry to the gun instead of just syphon feed.
