It would have been more appropriate it that had been a Tormach "420" instead of a 440. :)

When i rough, i leave .002 - .005 for clean up. you will get cutter deflection witch will leave a hair more but the finish will be gorgeous...and its easer on the fin cutter( weather it be 3-d or 2-d still i only leave a very small amount)

Fusion's 2D pocketing tool path (not adaptive clearing) thought it was a good idea to mill a slot (today) and then run a 4 Fl FEM full speed into the end of that slot. The tool was pulled out, the stock is in the scrap drum now. Lesson learned: Even if Fusion does not give you a warning/error, take a critical close look on what this program comes up with.
@uzkanda8 жыл бұрын
John, suggest for fusion folk to implement both way milling for 2D/3D adaptive. It's a huge time saver for slow rapid feed machines

I've watched a ton of your videos, but i haven't heard you talk about why you don't use a normal coolant/flushing system instead of that weird oil/air system. You seen to have chip buildup issues in a lot of your videos (hence the manual airgun). A flushing system would solve all those problems and give you a much better process. The big factories use flushing for a reason ;)
@acy488 жыл бұрын
I believe it is to make the videos watchable. a flushing system inhibits visibility.

Great job John! When you mentioned the RoboDrill I think they are best suited for 2nd op cnc work because the gcode limitation. Another mill say like a Haas muti axis setup could be far longer lines could be millions or more. But that's what they are built to do. Have you ever considered making cpu and gpu water block from deoxidized copper? That 440 would be awesome for that type of stuff and there is a massive market out there for cpu water / liquid cooling. I think you would be good at it.
@commadore1298 жыл бұрын
No it's very much alive I've seen some people here on you tube that think any ting of spending 5000 on a gaming setup i'm actually in the middle of getting my mother board out of my main computer fixed that's why I though of it some time when I get my main rig setup you know, the one with solid works and Fushun 360 on it back up i'll try to skech you up something. basics is just a copper block with a spiral grove in it and a cap bolted on it's crazy simple. I would like to make them but my mill is screwed up the ways are not parallel so I cant trust it in 3 axis mode sigh lol. But like you said before I know you like to do cool stuff like that just like me lol. i'll do some research on it and see what it all takes i'm good at figuring out flow and thermal transfer stuff. I'm out of work right now shop went out of business and looking for any welding fab and machine work I can do lol just trying to help. Us machinist and tool makers got to work hard for what we get so if I can't do it I know someone who can you know what I mean. I'm 35 been working most of my life in tool and die job shop and welding and things are getting slow around here just trying to live lol.

What do you mean when you say soft jaws are they just made of really soft metal I'm a woodworker btw
@veganzombe7 жыл бұрын
so like with woodwork if you dont want to scratch up your work you would put a cheap piece of pine or a cloth in the jaws of your clamp so the clamp is softer than your work piece. In metal work you would want a softer metal like aluminum jaws to hold a harder metal like steel.

Think of the math that Fusion 360 has to work out to generate the tool paths for the adaptive clearing ops!
@bluehornet67526 жыл бұрын
Were you you worried about those error and warning symbols there at the end John? There were quite a few error icons from your template, but I didn't see an actual error message associated with them. There was also a warning icon at 14:00, in the "Setup 1" operation. I'm used to Solidworks errors and warnings, so these Fusion 360 things throw me a bit yet. Now that SW 2018 has CAMWorks built-in, is it worth still going to Fusion 360 for tool paths from a SW part?
@occamssawzall34868 жыл бұрын
Not much of change here. Looks good I think I would have finished the floor up with a horizontal path. Left 3-5 thou on floor with the adaptive and cleaned up the tool mark pattern using the horizontal. However. I don't believe you finished the outer perimeter of that pocket... There was a finish pas around all the little stand offs, but none around the ID of the pocket it's self.
@occamssawzall34868 жыл бұрын
Weird thing is, it's shown in the F360 verify later. But not on the the part machining portion. I wonder if your lead in error you were getting caused it to not post that portion of the tool path. Or maybe it's early and I'm blind and I missed it.
@occamssawzall34868 жыл бұрын
+NYC CNC Maybe it's an optical illusion. But I swear I can still see the vertical facet lines left over from the adaptive @ 9:30 when you're showing the part off under the light and they look the same on the wall as they did back @ the 6:00 mark... The adaptive's step over is small enough that the lead in arcs could have cleaned up that wall pretty well. I'm assuming you measured it and it measured right. So it must have cut that wall. Maybe not enough stock left on to clean up the gouges from tool deflection during the adaptive. Left some some phantom lines. Just happened to catch a couple glints of it in the light and something looked off. Could just completely be me though XD
