This video is Part 2 of repairing and replacing a Caterpillar D10 Dozer track adjuster cylinder that has been damaged. In this video we are machining and welding to repair the damaged track adjuster sleeve. First we machine down the damaged sleeve surfaces using our TM-1740G lathe before mig welding with silicon bronze to build up the machined steel surfaces. Then the sleeve goes back in the lathe for machining the silicon bronze back to spec. We also finish up completing the track adjuster cylinder barrel by welding the cap end onto the new barrel that we machined and honed in part 1.

Hey viewers thanks for watching today's video Part 2 of the D10 dozer track adjuster job! Looked like the Silicon Bronze went on well, though obviously it doesn't pay by it's self, may I ask what grade/composition it is?. Thanks. Correction, removed "Not" prior to went, don't know what happened there!

We use Silicon Bronze filler for build ups at work pretty often, what you got there is about as good as it ever goes on unless Tig is employed. We get into a good many ductile iron pistons and SB is the go to for that. Nice job!

@@steamfan7147 I've corrected my comment, I meant that it looked good, I've used TIG Bronze (not to a high standard), and does a great job, never considered it for surface build up. Thanks.

Hey Kurtis, I work for one of the big 3 here in the U.S., I work in suspension development & I use our machine shop for fixtures etc. Before the pandemic we were asked to participate in lathe, Bridgeport training regardless of our experience, when you were polishing that tube with the emery paper it reminded me of a training video we were shown where the operator put both ends of the Emery paper together & held it with his right hand, you know what happened, it pulled his arm in & around that work piece faster than you could say "oh crap", plus he passed out, instead of turning the machine off(they eventually did) his coworkers tried to pull him out...then that was the end of the video....GOD BLESS!!!

@@geofflewis4815 Hi, Ohh to have that bullet proof body of youth eh. Concrete literally sucks the life out of everything that has an electric field about it (My thoughts about it) Hips, knees and ankles are all at risk without something between us and that nasty stuff. An automotive battery left on it for a week turns to garbage. A bit of plywood or a nice pc of high density foam I found that works best. I am retired now and had my R leg amputated because the arthritis was so bad it had consumed the entire joint. My left knee isn't all that happy either. Every time I see a young fella like Kurtis I am first to get at them about that nasty, soul sucking stuff. Thanks for backing me up on this. Loving your channel. I’m a novice hobbyist, I wonder if you could do a video on explaining the reasons/decisions of what inserts your use and why the different types are selected, especially when you change on one job? Keep up the great work.

The shop mascot looks to be a mature dog. The pups don't grow the grey beard. And nice machine work too. Not to say more dog time is required but it sure makes my day easier.

Damn, I love watching you work ? I guess its the set ups ,watching the chips curl off the tool;. Everything just fits together spot on. All different kinds of welding, honing . That camera work is great ... But, the poor old dog, just sets there , all he wants is a pet on the Damn head once in a while. Hit the bell looking forward to the next one.. Stay safe , Love the Bloopers to, See Ya,

Very nice repair. Your dog must have tough feet. The other day my youngest son was bleeding all over the house. He stepped on a piece of swarf that had come off one of my boots at home. Nasty cut. Ken
@CuttingEdgeEngineering
@CuttingEdgeEngineering 4 жыл бұрын
Hey Ken! Yeah it's nasty shit! Some swarf is worse than others. He does have tough paws and usually avoids the worse areas it's the sharp little chip breaker swarf that sometimes get stuck but he lets us know quickly. Hope your sons foot is better now! Have a good weekend mate 😎👍

Been watching a load of your videos over the past few days. I'm a machine tool design engineer (Grinding machines) and love these videos! Out of interest, why the silicone bronze? I'm repairing some cast iron guttering for home (it's 200 years old so can't bring myself to throw it out and replace with plastic) and am using silicone bronze tig wire.
