Great build as usual @machmodels . Just a suggestion for future aircraft builds; try using Mr Hobby 101 or Tamiya X-19 SMOKE for post shading. It’s a clear browny black that isn’t as saturated as flat black. So you’ll get a subtle shading effect. Something else that you could try for jet exhaust or any worn metallic surface; Mr Metal Color 212 - Iron, 213 - Stainless & 214 - Dark Iron. These are buffable metallic paints; so apply either by hairy-stick or airbrush - leave it to dry then with a soft cloth rub till you have a realistic used metallic shine. I’ve uploaded a video on my channel that you can watch to see how easy & effective this technique is.

Hi luke you've done a fantastic job on the mig mate it looks awesome. Regarding eduard decals. what I've seen about them is you apply the decals over a gloss coat, then leave them for 24 hours, then peel them off. i think that's why people struggle with using them they are not leaving them long enough. cheers Gary 🇬🇧

Great high standard of work. The Eduard decals are getting better. I tend peel off the big one but leave the film on the stencil. VMS Satin varnish makes the film disappear. On the whole I don’t like them.

@davidkendall1614
@davidkendall1614 Ай бұрын
“Russian interiors” were not all the same colour. The emerald green or turquoise was common in many MiGs (Mr Color C391, AK RC206 (old) or RC980 (new), Model Air 71.331, etc.), whereas many Sukhoi aircraft had a blue-grey colour (e.g. Mr Color C392), and many older jets had grey cockpits. Check references specific to the aircraft. In any event, many hobby paint manufacturers are now producing colours supposedly representative of Soviet/Russian paint used in various applications, just as we have become accustomed to FS, RAL, RLM, and BSC colours for western military subjects. The accuracy of said interpretations is subject to debate. 😂

Great job as always. The MiG-21 interior colour has received much discussion. Unfortunately Eduard’s release had them direct modellers to use H45 Emerald Green which is too green. I’ll come back to H45. I have found AK Real Colors RC206 Russian Cockpit Turquoise is spot on as a colour choice and have used this in all but one of the MiG-21s I have built. The other (my first MiG-21) was a 50/50 mix of H46 Emerald Green and H25 Sky Blue which produces a colour almost identical to RC206. As you find in your build, these kits are great to build and like me, you’ll probably build more. There are so many interesting marking choices across their boxings and then of course there are the after market decal sheets. You could fill a room with MiG-21s.

Hi, I’ve been watching your channel for some time now and recently visited Hannats in London and was going to speak to you but you were busy introducing a couple of young lads to the airbrushing world. Just wanted to ask a quick question. When you are mixing paint with thinners ready to spray, how do you measure out the amount of paint and of thinners? And how do you ensure you have enough paint/thinners that you will use?
@machmodels
@machmodels 23 күн бұрын
Thank you very much for keeping up with the channel! So a good tool to have is dropper bottles, these make sure you have an exact amount of paint, also I use a little scoop and a Pipette to get around about the right region. However most of it is just feel and experience, I know it’s a bit of a bad answer but it is the truth!

Not sure if that is a facetious comment or a legitimate question…but anyway…”Fishbed” was the NATO codename for the MiG-21. All Soviet-era fighters were given codenames beginning with the letter “F”, for fighter. Su-27 “Flanker”, MiG-25 “Foxbat”, etc. Bombers had “B” codenames, like Tu-22M “Backfire” and Tu-160 “Blackjack”.

Have you considered instead of rushing through builds like you do to put out more videos more often, trying to spend more time on the models and raise the finished quality of work? I notice quite often you have badly aligned parts, as well as poor quality of cleanup where you blame the kit for it instead of just putting care and attention into the model.
@machmodels
@machmodels Ай бұрын
A valid comment, however, I would love you to be a little more specific as to what areas are so bad on this build. On previous builds, I definitely understand the areas which have gone wrong but I thought this one was better. Would love to see some of your models as well, to see what I’m striving for😄😉
@Enemy0fMine1415
@Enemy0fMine1415 Ай бұрын
@machmodels passive aggressive doesn't suit you... You post your work openly on a social media platform. This invites criticism by its very nature. My work has no baring on whether my critique of yours has any merit or not. As for areas on this build, more time spent during assembly to file, fit, fill, and rescribe areas where necessary would have elevated it further. You have a tendency to rush the build side in favour of painting, which is why you get visible gaps appearing on areas like the spine section of this build, the under nose cowling on the miniart thunderbolt and others too. Just because others praise you doesn't mean you don't have areas to improve upon, maybe reflect on what I've said before making weird flex statements next time.
@machmodels
@machmodels Ай бұрын
My deepest apologies! None of that was meant in any way to be aggressive, genuinely just wanting to see other people’s build to see! The reason I ask is having a fresh pair of eyes to look at a build always reveals different things, so thank you for highlighting those areas for me on this and past builds. Once again I am very sorry if my previous comment was in any way aggressive, I will try to sort out my build quality in the future! Hopefully see you in the next build… with some better build quality!😄
