My ARMOR friend died weeks ago. These videos were part of our relationship, and now I can't share this one with him... so, it's very sad, but I'm glad to remember his passion for tanks and similar stuff through this beautiful red monster. Thanks "Tío Nightshift", greetings from Bolivia (uncle = Tío, Spanish)

Adding the tree branches and greenery was (partially still is) a tradition in Germany that is kind of a celebration of finished work. You can also see this in pictures of german ships being put to Sea or anniversery build nr. of different vehicles. Today you still put a small tree, akin to a christmas tree, on top of the roof of a new build house.

Let's translate a few of those slogans for all the non-germans: Right sight (left to right, top to bottom): -Many diligent hands finished this work on 8th of May 1943 (it rhymes in german) -Vehicle finished: Free for repairing by Siemens (The ferdinands broke down regularly) -Porsche&Siemens are also finished! Goddamn! -Ferdinand, that's his name, whoever teases him get's bitten. (ryhmes in german) -That is the last one (right next to this, in old german Kurrent-writing: Hold your breath) -The Baras-nightshift is finished! (tiny text beside it: Ferdinand, you bear, I like you very much! (also rhymes)) The decal on the box is undecypherable. Front middle: 5 days ahead of the deadline! On the left only the big poem and the sentence below are readable: From Great-Berlin we came and reachd out our hand to Austria (they named it Ostmark after its annexion) to make this beast here. Now the work is done. To the front will be rolling the Ferdinand to protect our Fatherland and our whishes go with him Onwards, to victory! Thats the wish of Berlin! and also Vienna! Below that: We will be winners, with our "Tiger" (the Ferdi was built on 90 prefactured hulls of the Porsche-Tiger) On the rear (from top to bottom): The pope benelovent held his hands above you, so the Tiger became a bull. (rhymes in german) 'twas nice, this is the last, now we are driving home and have parties Now it's the Ni-Factory's turn at last, but we will also get it done - then there will be more to ask and watch. "Are you finished with that monkey yet!" Hope I could help.

Every time I watch one of your videos, I'm reminded of my Grandfather. He was doing weathering and such on the model railroad that he had in his garage. Yes, he converted his garage into an entire model railroad world. He would build the dioramas, weather the trains and buildings so they look real, and then run the trains. If we were lucky, he would le my sister and I run the trains too. He was my inspiration to get into models and briefly into trains (their expensive). And, also into making things look realistic and not off the shelf. He was doing all that back in the 1970's and 80's as I grew up watching. I'm sure he started way before that. Sadly, he has passed away (1985), but I still think of him often and feel that if he were alive today, besides being over 100 years old, he would love your videos just as much as I do. I started customizing Hot Wheels size cars in the early 2000's and still do that on and off. My channel is more about woodworking but there are videos on customizing there. But, I started watching your channel to learn more about weather and find myself more involved just watching and listening to you explain everything. Thank you very much for sharing your talent and knowledge. I look forward to each video. Thank you again and God Bless.

This turned out to be way more interesting than I thought by the thumbnail! The result is stunning (as always)! As weird as it looks, making the base color layer gloss is actually my preferred method before adding on the decals. It makes for a nicer "bed" for the decals to sit on and their carrier film becomes just a tiny bit more invisible than on a matt surface.

Mr. Kovac, You are an amazing modeler! Thank you for all your inspirational videos. Could you built a KV-1 sometime soon? There was this one KV-1 that was named Merciless. The money for it was donated by famous Russian poets and artists. It had patriotic verses, an image of Hitler being blown apart by a tank and the names of those who donated money to build it on the side, which I think would make a very exciting build. Again, thank you for your videos, they have really helped my models.

As for the decoration on the tank. You are correct to assume that it was finished by the nightshift, but they are also celebrating the conclusion of their work and return home (most of the workers of that project came from different factories inside germany) the Decoration is a traditional way to celebrate the finishing of the base construction of major projects in germany. To this day we do it with houses once they get their roof mountings (note, not the bricks or whatever else you use to finish the roof, just the wooden frame) The shells in the front form such a roof, with the tree branches probably representing the tree put on top of such projects. The Markings are also part of that and while the exact contents are individual the overall message is that of celebration and hopes for the future of the finished build. In essence it is the celebration of finishing work combined with a prayer for the "long and successful life" of whatever it was that was being build. Similar stuff was also done with other projects, like the finishing of the only Porsche Tiger (one was build as a command vehicle for the ferdinants) or the conclusion of the last run of the Pz III.
