I saw this match And it was a good match a nice way to bring Ricky steamboat back but I would’ve loved to of seen Andre in there because it would’ve been a perfect way for him to start his heel turn at that particular match.

I honestly think that if Honky Tonk would have stayed a Face for the few weeks that he was,he would not have lasted in the WWWF. I think the Federation knew also. His Gimmick was not coming off as far as I was concerned. This is probably why they took that Poll that made him a Villian.The Elvis imitation helped a little, but it was his Annoying Promo cutting that made people hate him more than anything. This is what saved his career just before it was about to take a nose dive.Just my thoughts....

Does anyone know why they substituted Ricky Steamboat for Andre the Giant in this match? Andre was obviously there because that show was the beginning of the Andre heel turn. Is that why there was a substitution? Was the Andre heel turn planned suddenly after this promo was filmed?

I don't think the turn was suddenly planned per se. They probably didn't intend on Andre doing the match but it added a layer to the storyline with perhaps his friendship with Hogan being in doubt.
