I remember Hall saying something like that, words to that effect. Another thing that I recall was a shoot magazine writer-editor knocking the WWF's decision to give Sid the WWF World Heavyweight Championship at the expense of Shawn Michaels. The writer-editor, who clearly had contempt for Sid, said that the best thing one could say about Sid is that people cheer when he walks down the aisle. What this fellow didn't understand was that's the best thing that one could say about _any_ wrestler. They cheer, it means they're at the arena to see you (or you're one of the reasons). It's that simple. If Sid didn't draw (as the writer-editor claimed), then I wonder what that made Michaels. I should mention that the writer-editor didn't have a problem with putting Sid on the cover of that same issue. So, he was doing the same thing for which be berated the WWF: using Sid to make money. He would do the same thing with Hogan, another wrestler that he despised. It was a good magazine, I was always pumped for the next issue, yet looking back, it's clear why the writers weren't in the wrestling business.

The week that Ric Flair lost in Saskatoon to Bret Hart, the WWF came to Charlottetown Prince Edward Island for a house show. (Ric of course didn't come, he had that inner ear problem at the time, not that any of us knew that.) There were 4000 people there, which was a big house for that town but was tiny by WWF standards, and for the most part, the talent was basically punching and kicking their way through the matches, not taking any risks for such a small crowd. The most impressive move of the night was Ted DiBiase giving the Ultimate Warrior a vertical suplex. Of course Ted lost the match, but I still appreciated the bit extra he did for our small crowd.

Hulk Hogan "Passed the Torch" to both Goldberg and The Warrior. Both of them were not able to "Carry the Torch." But, The Ultimate Warrior truly did a TERRIBLE job of trying to "Hold the Torch." In a very short time, The Ultimate Warrior made it clear he was not capable of "Carrying the Torch" the way Hogan did. And when Hogan left WCW and allowed "Bill Goldberg" to be the champion after beating him in a fair match, we saw Bill Goldberg also did not "Carry the Torch" well. Some of this was because "Bill Goldberg" was changed to "Goldberg" for some stupid reason. That was like "rebranding" someone successful, and it didn't work.

Thing about Ultimate Warrior & Hulk Hogan: they might get loads of criticism from their peers and wrestling-connoisseurs, but without them two that era would be much less memorable. Them two formed a profound bond with young fandom which then later drove the Attitude Era as they got older and wanted more. In general, people tend to shy away from saying bad things about the dead, whether they be true, or not. Wrestlers,- to an extent, are a closed circle. For the most part, they do NOT say bad things about other wrestlers. I would imagine alot of this comes from the knowledge that, "if I have to work with this guy down the road, I sure as hell don't want him thinking "this is the guy who bad mouthed me- I'll just lay into him in the match". Much has been said about Helwig's proffesionalism. We have seen glimpses of how other wrestlers percieved him. This is not bad mouthing a dead man, this is the truth of how he was to work with.

The Ultimate Warrior created a character nobody had ever really saw before. The look and his energy, everything he did, is what made him a LEGEND. As a kid in the 80s watching him do his thing was so thrilling. He got people and especially kids, more hyped up than most other wrestlers. What people forget a lot of the time is the reason guys like Warrior, Hogan and Flair did similar matches over and over is because that is what people who paid for a ticket came to see. While Ultimate Warrior wasn't a great technical wrestler I think a lot of people judge his move-pool mostly for his early period in WWF, because he did start doing other moves too eventually, and not just clothelines and shaking the ropes. People might be surprised if you look into his later matches for WWE. Look at his matches with The Undertaker for example. Warrior was actually doing "tombstone" piledrivers on the Undertaker, and that's a pretty dangerous move if you don't know what you're doing. His match with Macho Man had some technical moves too, if I recall. Still pretty limited though, I guess. I think Warrior was arguably pushed too hard by Vince, because Vince liked the energy, intensity and look of Warrior. But Warrior had to deal with all the contempt of the others, and being a loner didn't help. He just didn't trust anyone, and got edgy and paranoid, because everyone was jealous of his push. That is my take on it. Him being on steroids and having steroid-rages at planes, resturants, fans, kids, and also not really caring about the other wrestlers too much also gave him a bad reputation.

Eh he trusted some people, it was just very few. It got to the point he basically trusted Savage, Bad News Brown and Owen Hart towards the end of his WHC run. He did however get along with a lot of the talent going off of shoot interviews. It makes sense why he isolated when you listen to other shoot interviews. According to Marty Jannetty he and The Bulldogs spiked drinks with street drugs to trick Warrior into getting all messed up. If you add in the massive pile of interviews with talent regarding Pat Patterson constantly trying to fuck the big bodybuilder guys and showing up to their Hotel rooms fishing for sex, Lord Alfred Hates running around putting his dick all over male talent etc can you really blame Warrior for becoming a loner and only associating with a select few?

A as a boy the Ultimate Warrior was my hands down favorite. He could excite the crowd with his presence and intensity. There will always be a spot in my heart for the warrior. Now having said that as an adult I admit I have learned more about the warrior (stiff in the ring, very limited move set, self centered, not overly kind or caring towards the fans) and realized why he is not so popular amoungst other wrestlers. I will disagree with Ted in one regard. He said Warrior's star power didn't last. His star power always lasted. If he didn't maintain that star power, he wouldn't have gotten a prime spot in WCW against Hogan(I know Hogan wanted to avenge his loss, but Warrior got them great ratings that first night) and another shot with WWE, to include squashing HHH at Wrestlemania. It was his star power that got him second and third chances despite his limited move set and bad attitude.

Exactly. Many years later he headlined his hall of fame class as well. And even today, he sells a bunch of merchandise, especially action figures. Flash in the pans don't bring that much money in 25 years after last wrestling in a major promotion.

Hogan didn't really avenge his loss, as that would be a clean loss returned to Warrior as was done to Hulk and it didn't happen that way. Hogan was a heel cheating to win in the Warrior loss. So he didn't get his win back really.

He got a spot in WCW because Hogan brought him in. Wanted to work with him. Only reason. He lost the WWE loads of money by no-showing. He even no-showed charity events. Vince invested a lot of time and money into him and his time on the top was very brief and he got fired.

Ted seems to forget about the Saturday Night's Main Event (or Friday un this case) match versus DiBiase. Warrior didn't do "the same stuff". It was their best match between one another. The main problem was that he wasn't consistent as far as doing more stuff moveset-wise. Warrior did apologize to Jake later and explained what was going on back during that time. I wish he would tell us what Helwwig told him. If true, it sucks that he had to ask him if it was okay to work a program with him. That was one of the best storylines to never finish playing out.

We know how Andre handled it! According to Bobby Heenan. When Warrior was told to do a move with more care, just be a bit slower and not like 200mph and didn't do it, Andre just let him run against his fist, and that made Warrior learn. In 2010, Ted headlined the Hall of Fame class. Since Wrestlemania was in Phoenix, WWE tried really hard that year to convince Warrior to headline the class -- can you imagine if Ted would have had to take 2nd place to Warrior, a guy he genuinely didn't like? Glad Ted was the headliner! 😀

I hated the Million Dollar Man gimmick. For one thing a Billion was the new Million by 1985. He offered Hogan a million dollars for the title and my little kid ass knew that the belt made the champion capable of making that much money.. and if you were already a millionaire going into wrestling why the fuck would you be in a wrestling promotion… you can start your own

Those are good points. This is why Bruce Wayne was upgraded to billionaire status for Tim Burton's BATMAN movie (1989). Still, I enjoyed the gimmick, those vignettes. The gimmick was really more about DiBiase liking to humiliate people, not so much the fact that he was made of money (my take). Yet to be fair, looking at Hogan being offered money for the belt in another way, people with lots of money will still do stupid things for extra cash. I'm sure that Jerry Rice has millions, yet he humiliated himself in a commercial for Popeyes. Greed makes people do odd things.

Wrestlers wish they had what warrior had, you cant teach his intensity and charisma. Sure he wasn't bret heart but he was interesting enough to keep people watching and selling out arenas anytime he was promoted. Even what DiBiase said “he couldn’t work with him at The Tokyo Dome”, what he said in this video, is true. At WWF/AJPW/NJPW Wrestle Summit just a week after Wrestlemania VI Warrior beat Ted DiBiase in 6:12, when DiBiase worked with The Warrior, he saw a monster. Ted DiBiase was a guy who respected faces and heels, Jake Roberts,The Heenan Family(Andre,Haku,Rick Rude,Curt Henning,)Hulk Hogan, Macho Man,Roddy Piper, even The Undertaker!

Growing up in the 80's as a wrestling fan was awesome. I wish just for one night the WWE could figure out how to replicate the feeling that came along with shows and star power like Hogan and Warrior. I can't really explain what it was like being an 8-12 year old Hulkamaniac between 86-90 but there was nothing more awesome than being at the Hershey Park arena or the Spectrum in Philly and hearing "Real American" start blasting through the arena. The Million Dollar Man was the absolute perfect heel back then and as fans we absolutely loved to hate him. We truly believed he was a smug, racist, sexist and bigoted rich guy who always got away with his BS. Diabase would have been an incredible heel champion for Hogan to chase and feud with in the lead ups to WrestleMania 4,5 or 6. Of course ill also never forget Virgil finally breaking free of Dibiase and hitting that smug smile of his with the million dollar belt. My lord i miss those days and that amazing wrestling

Ted was a fantastic character and one of the most underrated technical wrestlers amongst fans. I never got the appeal of warrior he did the same boring moves over and over every match. The only good thing about him was his run to the ring and his mic skills. And Ted had skills on the mic. Calling someone out for being a shitty wrestler and person isn’t jealousy.

How many things did Ted do realistically or Jake the snake. Jake has said less is more. It’s not the moves it’s when you do them. Jake basically had a few moves: ddt, short clothesline, jabs and occasionally a slam, high knee and gut buster. Ted’s were: missed reverse elbow off the second turnbuckle, punch, suplex and cobra clutch, knee to gut? Fist drop. But this doesn’t matter it’s what made them them. Point is no huge stars had 89 moves

Lol. Ted has said at least 50 times in his episodes about whether he cared about being champion or not "its always about the money for me. I wanted the paydays." Yet here he is saying he didn't respect warrior because "it was a means to an end for him. He didn't care about the business. All the boys knew the deal." This has always been about Warrior being an outsider and less skilled. Jealousy that he didn't have to pay the dues they did. He had the attitude. The character idea. The right combination of all things that put him over the top. As a kid we believed he could kick all their asses bc he looked and acted the part. He just wasn't one of the boys. Warrior had a few friends like Kerry Von Erich who obviously died way too young. There is the story he let Kamala ride in his limo. I do think a lot of the guys were jealous because he rose to the top so fast. Maybe he wasn’t the most friendly guy but I don’t think he deserved a dvd bashing him and basically all anyone does online since is quote parts of it. Huge smear campaign. He did pay some dues in world class and before that with Sting so I don’t buy that. He’s the only muscle bound guy from the 80’s that gets criticised for not wrestling a bret hart style, it’s pretty laughable. Bret and Shawn and those guys didn’t draw.

Ted came in 1988 in the WWF/E, he was a great heel, but when The Warrior came, he sure didn’t give a shit about who he wrestled. at Wrestlemania IV, he and Hercules Hernandez just beat each other for 10 minutes as what The Honky Tonk Man said in a interview, and he also said it was boring, Hercules told Honky” I’m just trying to get out there!” Well yeah! Correct me if I’m wrong, but didn’t Hulk Hogan have and 5 or 6 moves and did the hulk up comeback every match? Ric Flair had the same match every night according to many that have worked with him and he obviously did. Kevin Nash is known to have the 6 moves of doom. My point is in that era many wrestlers had a few go to moves to carry a match. Ultimate Warrior was a power wrestler not a technical wrestler and in that era it was different. Vince saw something in Jim to put tue world title on him and beat the unbeatable Hulk Hogan. That says something right because Vince took a regional promotion and took it to parts unknown lol just sold for 9 billion so I believe too many egos got in the way and if your not trying to make as much money as you can then your a bad business man. Goldberg has squash matches and no one bats an eye at him but Warrior could work and he was difficult to deal with. Instead of bashing a guy that obviously made a huge name for himself with a character that will forever be remembered bash the sexual harassment that went on back then from Pat Patterson and many others. He was obviously willing to learn from Macho and Rude. Not every 2 wrestler have good chemistry and or a good match. I just think that Warrior and ant given enough credit for his actual ability. Bottom line he put asses in the seats.

They all did the same match nightly. Hart, hbk, hhh, dibiase, savage, andre, Ric rude, etc etc etc. Steamboat. All of them. Same shit. Ppl act like bret hart did all of these different style matches every other night. It was the same shit. Side Russian leg sweep. Middle rope drop. Double clothesline. Ohy leg is injured n I'm so out of breath upon my comeback. Etc etc. Same shit every time.they all did it. It just depends who you like, that you will look at it differently. Ppl are subjective beings. Rarely are they objective. That's why politics play such a big role in everything.
