On Monday the 31st. of October 1988 I was driving to my parents' home near Cardiff where our father (1913 - 1988) was dying. I had a cassette player in my car and I was listening to Dolores Keane. When I heard her sing this song I ended up sobbing. However, I did get there and watched with my siblings and our mother as our Dad, breathing oxygen through a mask, welcomed his grandchildren with a great big smile. Those grandchildren, who now have children of their own, their faces glowing, responded with their very best broad smiles. No photographs were take but the memory has been implanted in my mind ever since. Thank you, Dolores Keane.

I just got back to Canada from Galway. I just happened upon a place where I decided to sit and have a bite when I noticed Delores sitting directly behind me. I approached her and told her of my love for her music. Shortly after she signed an autograph for me, she approached me and asked me if I would join her and her friend at their table. I spent a few glorious hours in her company. It was the thrill of a lifetime for me. She is a beautiful woman and so warm and personable. Having seen many of the things the Emerald Isle has to offer, this was indeed the highlight of my trip. Thank you Delores. I hope we meet again. John from Canada.

Lived across from Dunguaire Castle in Kinarra. A lovely way to spend an evening was watching the sun going down behind the castle with a mug of tea. One of the happiest times of my life and a big mistake to leave it. I'd move back tomorrow.

I look at this every night. My Granny was from there and instilled her love of that place to the place where we still love it today.Got cousins in Dublin as well. Love the Isle. It don't stop!

There's a small number of songs that define the Irish in terms of the diaspora and the whole historical scenario giving rise to that. This song, for me, tops the list for the clever use of words and phraseology and the sheer evocative imagery of the singer's delivery. Nobody sings this ballad better than the lovely Dolores.....long may you do so, a chailin.

I have a tin whistle and it goes with it perfectly. It says Bb on it. Is that B flat? I'm not too sure if that's helpful to you

Conor, tis a nice thought lad. The song however tis played here in the key of G major which has but one sharp F# . An honourable attempt at pitchin in me lad. Perhaps if it were to be transposed a bit yer whistle would be jest what's needed.
