Mack's a good man. After Texas won the NC, he told his team in the lockeroom: "I don't want this to be the best thing that's ever happened in your life. When you're 54, I don't want you to say 'Winning a football game is the best thing that's ever happened in my life.' You'll have it and you'l be a champion for the rest of your life... one of the best sports things in your life. But you promise me... you got enough about you to be a great citizen and a great role model, a great father, and a great leader in your family. And that's what we're looking for when you get out of here. That's what we want."

He was and is all class, all the time. Privileged to have had him as the had coach when I was a student in Austin. He’s a great man. His wife makes good cookies too 😂

I am a longhorn and disagree. The way that petulant ego maniac left destroyed any real coaching search. It's an absolute fact that he told Tom Hicks that he would not allow Nick Saban to come to Austin and win it all with HIS players. He thought he was bigger than Texas football and put himself above the program. F that baby. ...... And before anyone says it no I don't believe Saban was ever going to come here but I do believe we were talking to his agent and Mack shut it down. His agent was probably trying to get him a raise but that's not the point here.
@Hookah_Horns

@@dougrose7334I will always believe Saban was ready to make that move. Mack is a two faced dude whose aw shucks folksiness is a facade. I think he's a good guy overall, but I could never stand the phoniness. Sark’s authenticity is refreshing. And yeah the way he handled his downfall at Texas was embarrassing. He thought he was the program, if not bigger than it.

Mack Brown changed the course of Longhorn Football history, and I will always be thankful for that. I think he was done hard by the University of Texas but what was going on at the school at the time was an implosion in leadership and his treatment was more of a symptom of the greater sickness at Texas.

I believe that the two seasons that really messed him up at Texas. 2008 and 2009. Those 2 seasons really messed him up at Texas. Both seasons were so close to a championship. After that you can see a real decline at Texas. That being said he is still a legend and will always be a Texas 🤘🏽.

This was a really good interview, Josh. It was really great to listen to Coach Brown. He really shook up recruiting when he first came to Texas U. and there are a lot of Texans who didn't like that. I'm one. But he showed what a class act he is, usually, in this interview and by what he said after the A&M bonfire tumbled and killed all the Aggie bonfire workers. Thank you.

I dig this series but the constant effort pate puts in to pretend guys weren’t getting paid before NIL and that the media is to blame for bowl game opt outs really makes it hard to take Josh as seriously as he takes himself. Players can opt out now because they started getting some power and agency. And the proliferation of bowls themselves made them meaningless. If you have an nfl career in front of you are you gonna go risk your ACL for the fucking bad boy mowers bowl ?

Too close/nice to coaches, that’s the biggest flaw of your channel. We don’t want shills for coaches making 50-100 mil over 10 years. We want objective analysis and a josh pate that won’t cowtow to these professional liars. Hold them accountable instead of buttering them up for access/content.

Another great interview in this Speaker Series! I think these are the BEST coach interviews because they’re totally away from fan-related football events. I have always liked and respected Coach Brown - an icon in the sport and coaching profession. Whether it’s spring practice and spring games/scrimmages, or the regular season during game week or even during a bye week, coaches at those times mentioned are generally babbling a lot of “coach speak” rather than just talking openly about the game/sport or that year’s team. In fairness they somewhat have to at those times I mentioned because they’re all doing a lot of what Coach Saban was famous for - they are making a statement to the press or having an actual press conference BUT they’re messaging their teams and their fan bases and not just talking. I hope this Speaker Series becomes a regular event EVERY SPRING (or dreaded “offseason”). Another Genius Move by Team Josh & the Pate State Crew! I also love that it’s roughly 3 coaches per week this time as we get to hear from more than just the handful of icons or top team head coaches. Fore example, I also LOVED the K-State (Chris Klieman) and Iowa State (Matt Campbell) coach interviews because I don’t regularly hear what those guys are saying since I don’t follow their teams in depth!
