Thats a tachograph, or nicknamed the (tattletale box), its an early mechanical way to track drivers hours on the road! If you can get the key, you can open that box and there is a round paper disc that records the hours!
@carldrexler78833 ай бұрын
@@MrLuckytrucker21 now we call that an E log 😂😂😂😂
@Retired88M9 ай бұрын
Yeah that tachograph could be opened and a special paper chart could be changed daily so THE MAN could see if you were speeding Also was hoping you’d have started it so we old timers could here the music we grew up with

Haha that's awesome, I'm gonna have to try and open it up

Look for a toggle switch on the dash, marked Dynatard. If it's there, it's Mack's version of a Jake
@carldrexler78839 ай бұрын
There was no dynatard back then didn’t come out until 71 and by then most enines were turbocharged
@thomaswilliams33423 ай бұрын
@@carldrexler7883also there's no electric connection going to the top of the rocker cover. The dynotard had the control solenoid on top of the rocker arm shaft support mount. I have put so many Jake's on some older Mack's (60-70s) back in the 80s. You can tell if the engine has one by looking under the rocker cover for the extension housing to raise the rocker cover. The electrical connectors go through the Jake's housing not the covers. And if you remember to install a Jake on the early Mack engine you had to disassemble the rocker arm shaft so you could grind down the exhaust rocker arm so the slave piston could clear the arm to hit the top of the valve.

That box mounted on the dash with a odometer ,clock,and tachometer was called a tachograph.You could open it and put a round paper chart in it.The chart was supposed to match your log book entries.

Oooo!... A Thermodyne!... That Truck isn't in too awfully bad of shape... The "Thing" on the Dashboard is a "Tattle Box"... That should have a key and be able to be opened... They had a piece of paper inside that the damn thing would record your Speed, Rpm's, stuff like that.... We used to open them with a small, strait, piece off Sheet Metal.... I think I had made my "Key" out of a Tool that you use to remove the Older Car Stereos.... That "Dummy Axle" on there is Cool too... They work great until you need to back up an incline or small hill... A lot of times, even though you have it up, they will pick your Drive Axle up off the Ground, then you'll sit and spin.... Anyhow, AWESOME TRUCK!....
