Mackenzie Nicole and producer Seven dive into their stories behind each song from her album "Mystic".
"This song came so naturally. This was one of the easiest ones to write." Mack says. "It's weird because this is the exact opposite of 'A Cut Rose In Tap Water', even if the songs are very similar in terms of vibe. I was having a great day when I wrote this. I hadn't been depressed for a while, I was feeling good. I was just reflecting alot on the concept of where I'de been and where I was going, and the contrast between the two."
"That's what this song is. You realize it's all in past tense. You know, 'I saw blood on my hands just to find that it was mine, confirming what I knew ― I was alone the whole time.' And the only present tense is what we're hearing right now, 'I am not in the dark.'"

This has been a great series, I've really enjoyed it! I think it's been made better by your decision to stagger the release and not lump it into one video, stronger connection to the album having spent that much more time hand in hand with it for sure. Seven nails it when he says that this song gives you permission to take the journey again - such an important story telling beat that I really felt! It's a great reward for those of us that listen to the album as a complete body of work, rather than dipping into them as singles. The insight coming from both parties has been wonderful and it's been great seeing the pair of you talk about the art you've created together with such collaborative appreciation of each other's contribution to the finished project. I hope you'll consider doing something like this for the next album! Though I'm not ready to part with this one just yet! Mystic = Magic.
