@@esetek It is now. That's why it's a shithole! Historically, Los Angeles was an old Spanish mission, and hardly any squatty Mexican resided there until the 20th century. In fact very few Mexican citizens lived north of the Rio grande. That is why Americans were invited down into Texas to settle & ranch in the 1830's. Of course this led to a little famous incident you may have heard of.

@savage 069 I grew up in Dog Town Santa Monica and Venice area back in the 70s, the Dog Town clique, is a mixed racial gang, we have Orientals, Latinos, African-Americans and caucasians in our group, just got to be cool, tough, Beach territorial and dog like loyalty to belong. But I agree, our open door border policy at the southern border with our finite, limited space, jobs and resources in America, it's getting kind of out of control and overcrowded to the nearest big city to occupy in America.

I was 9 in 1977 L.A. CA. I remember seeing the patrolmen on their motorcycles on the freeways.. I didn't make the connection between CHiPs being an international show and the real thing. I guess I just assumed it was a common thing since we saw them all the time. But I did think the cops were cool on their bikes (before they started going roque). In the intro to CHiPs, I still get the tingles when the music crescendos and they shift gears...I thought that was so cool.

My family moved to Los Angeles in the summer of 1974 my big three of my older sisters already lived here. The rest of the family went to visit in 1973 and fell in love and followed a year after. In 1977 we moved to West Los Angeles and lived our best life. Visiting movie sets and going on TV shows. My two older sisters went on the dating game. And they got to pick. The guys. Universy Studios, going Disneyland every summer. The beaches. Los Angeles was so much fun. We never looked back. Still live here today. Never went back to New Orleans.

It's all relative. Despite the fact myself and others wax nostalgic about the seventies, it was a tough time financially for a lot of people, including my parents. I think the seventies was the first time cracks began to appear in the giant engine that was the post WW2 economy. It kind of set into motion a lot of the troubles we are dealing with to this day. Still, it was a great time to grow up. Wouldn't change that for the world.

carl weezer Car exhaust plus L.A. is a basin surrounded by foothills that lock the smog in. Low emission cars and unleaded gas got rid of it. You used to be able to see a ring of smog around L.A. when you came in to land at LAX. If you watch old episodes of Adam-12 from the late ‘60’s early ‘70’s you can see layers of smog in the background.

The air quality is a million times better than it was back in the '60's and '70's. Just like Kendall Evans said I can remember playing on the playground at recess and it hurt to breathe in deeply. We also had smog alerts where we had to go into the gym and watch films instead of playing on the playground at recess. We used to go to LAX to drop off and pick up my grandparents and we would watch the jets take off. Thick BLACK smoke and exhaust poured out of those huge jets. You don't see that anymore and that's a good thing. If things had stayed the same and car makers had not been forced to make low emission cars that take unleaded gas and if factories had not been made to comply with air quality standards L.A. would not be an area where anybody would be able to live in today.

Born and raised in L.A., had a happy life growing up in Long Beach. I Loved every corner of California. Navy took me from CA for many years and when I got orders back there in 1984 it had changed so drastically I couldn't recognize the state I grew up in. I recently flew back to San Diego for a grandniece's wedding, and even though the I-15 corridor has gotten unbelievably built up and the population taxed and priced outta their homes, the state itself has the same appeal it had when I was younger. I'd love to set the clock back on its politics, because the state itself is still beautiful and has everything every other state has put together. I miss California; but in the shape it's in today I could never move back.

I lived in Long Beach in '77. I would take the bus up to the Strip on weekends and see bands at the Roxy, the Whisky, and shows at the Forum, Santa Monica Civic Center, like Bob Marley, Rory Gallagher, Frank Zappa. Then I moved to West Hollywood in '79 for a year and worked in Century City in one of the buildings at 1:31. I remember hitchiking down Santa Monica Blvd to get to work during a bus strike, and I remember the gas shortage where you could only buy gas on odd/even days, according to the number on your license plate.
