The Mackie Big Knob Studio and Big Knob Studio+ documentation is being corrected. Both are capable of recording up to 192😀 They cannot be used in conjunction with other sound cards because there is no sync option or word clock on the Big Knob Series.
@Allthingsgear7 жыл бұрын
Hello! Just heard back from Mackie and confirmed with my review unit that in fact the unit can record up to 192kHz. Some of the units went out with packaging that was incorrect apparently, so some sources say 96kHz -- when in fact it is 192.

you could use aggregate device in Mac osx, i've synchronized it with the Duet 2 ipad mac, if that's what u were referring to?

If you want to use an external mic, i.e. for voice overs, youtube videos etc, and dont want to buy a separate audio interface, this option is better than the Presonus Monitor v2, there saved you a bunch of searching =]

Music is too loud on my phone in the beginning. Why didn't you side chain a compressor to your voice on the music track?
@arthurwatts16807 жыл бұрын
Completely agree - I'm using a desktop PC into Sennheiser HD4.30 headphones : thankfully the music doesnt last for the entire vid.

Side chain? At the volume he sets the music that definitely would give some people a headache. A simple fade to a lower volume when he start speaking would seem more pro.

Nice review, man. Can't seem to find an answer to this-- can you record inputs 1, 2, and the source 3/4 inputs all at the same time, on different channels in your DAW? So in essence, the Big Knob Studio is a 4-input interface, right? Also, how's the latency when controlling virtual instruments? Say, at 44.1, 24-bit, and 128 or 64 as the buffer? Thanks!
@macronencer3 жыл бұрын
When the USB source is switched to "2-Track", where is the audio coming from? The "2-Track" sockets are OUTPUTS, not sources. Do they mean 3/4? If so, why isn't it labelled that way?
@FlipDeRiviera7 жыл бұрын
Hello, thanks for the review. How does the Mackie Big Knob Studio perform in latency terms within a DAW comparing with other audio interfaces in his price range? Is it really good to work with it mainly as audio interface for music production made mostly with virtual instruments / plugins in the DAW? Thank you, greetings to all

Can someone please explain why you would want to have input preamps in a monitor manager? Wouldn’t that add gain at the end of the signal of your mix? I’m baffled.

Sweetwater has a review for the Big Knob Passive that says the unit sucks about 7-8 dB out of the headroom. Is this also true for the Big Knob Studio? You guys should review the ART SCC Studio Control Center which is a similar unit.
@Allthingsgear7 жыл бұрын
Hi Mike. Sorry for the delayed response here. We're actually reviewing the Big Knob Passive now and I have to say I don't agree with that review. Sure, powered monitor control units (like the Big Knob Studio) will give you a little more headroom because there are more gain stages, but that's not the same thing as the Passive sucking out headroom. Between plugging our source directly into our monitors and going through the Big Knob Passive there was little to no difference.

2 questions; 1) does the usb cause an additional noise / interference? 2) I've had 3-4 big knobs die on me in my career, they seem to last a year and the wiring goes. How is now?

Is monitor2usb or control2usb similar to this? Can these devices from Behringer also be used as audio interface for recording or is this the only device on the market of this kind that can do that?

If I am correct the Begringer devices do not have Mic inputs or phantom power.

does your unit get hot? mine does specially the knob
@slapopimp6 жыл бұрын
Yeah... I contemplated taking it back for that very reason. Had it going on a month now. It gets hot like an amplifier for some reason. I thought perhaps the case was being used as an heat-sink, but there is nothing being sinked. I like it- but I'm not too confident on the engineering! I read in a forum that a guy got a response from Mackie that it's normal.

I wish someone would do a long-time-use review. Had mine for 18 months now, and the push buttons are failing, they now feel mushy to press, and won't stay pressed/lit. I have to press them 5-10 times with varying force/torque to get them to stay pressed. Quality leaves something to be desired.

This is not a review. This is a poorly produced promotion for an amazon account. The mackie units have had severe audio problems from day one, years ago. Presonus, even Behringer have solutions on offer that are far superior.
