I gotta say I have been a SW shopper for a number of years, but have never really noticed how much of a class act Mr. Gallagher is until I subscribed and started watching their online content. His genuine enthusiasm is plain to see- of course he's ultimately a salesman, of course he is, and he's well-versed in the features/benefits and specs of everything- but you can't fake the kind of enthusiasm and excitement he exudes, whether it's for a new Mackie mixer or a new amp from Mesa/Boogie or Friedman, or a $100 Akai MIDI pad controller lol...

Mitch is a class-act. I’ve always enjoyed his stuff here on SW. While yes he is definitely a salesman, he knows his stuff. Ultimately he’s also a musician. That’s what a lot of places lack. I used to work at one of the other bigger stores, I won’t drop names but let’s call it, Sitar Sweater. I remember we were opening a new store and when it came to training the newbies, the store manager said, with confidence, you don’t need to be a musician to sell anything in here, including guitars. I immediately told them to keep whatever rocks they were smoking away from me. I won’t even go into how that location is currently doing haha. All Hail Sweetwater 🙌

@@jackblunier i dont think these models come even close, zed had 2 fully parametric midbands and pioneered hybrid mixing all in one solution and with substantial quality, i got it second hand at 800euro, originally came close to 3.000, but you got it all, i wish it had groups and fx but you cant get it all, pitty they discontinued it (p.s. firewire and drivers work fine on newer computers)
@synthnerd4539
@synthnerd4539 Жыл бұрын
@@cryptonios Absolutely. I've been using my R16 for about 12 years and aside from regular wear and tear the biggest issue is it being Firewire - if A&H made a new model with swappable digital card but the same feature set otherwise, I'd be all over it. Nothing else in its price bracket these days matched the workflow. Mackie's own 1640i from the same period was about the only alternative. Shame they don't have that flexibility now, I really don't know why nobody has carried that through.

I think Mackie's heyday was the 90's and 2000's. I have several Mackie mixers that I bought during that period of time, and a 1202 that I bought in 2012. I love them all! I bought a couple of Mackie mixers recently in the past 5 years and they were hot garbage. I had to return them because of the poor build quality.

Yes, I have the Mackie Onyx 12 shown here. and I use the SD card function to play my backtracks too. I thought I could get an acceptable output from my electric accoustic guitar through the one of the 1/4" jacks in the stereo channels, but I only get a very low level signal, while an XLR signal from a microphone or keyboard gives me a normal output level. Rather strange, an explanation of that will be appreciated, please.

Two tracks can be recorded separately and simultaneously through the USB to computer or laptop. And you have to pan one channel on the mixer left, and the other to the right. The channels you are plugged into with say a guitar into one and your vocal microphone into any the first four channels. Man, My Mackie Onyx Firewire could record far more channels separately and simultaneously, but I wanted to go USB with all the other built in stuff.

Unfortunately, I must say that with the sliders set to 50% of the main and channel 1 and the preamp knobs to 50% there is significant noise. When a condenser microphone is connected, the recording is not studio-like, the noise is significant. I tried different settings but it's not good. I don't know if there's anything I can do. ONYX 12

Hello, great question! The overall results will depend on how loud your environment is and some other factors, but it is likely that you will get a decent output from the headphone amp. However if you want to be extra sure, you could connect the headphone output on this to an external headphone amp or use the lower ohm version of those headphones. Thanks! I contacted Mackie support which is useless because they don't wanna answer questions unless you're from the US or Canada. So my last hope is that maybe someone here can tell me if it's possible or not, because I literally tried everything.

Hi there, thanks so much for the question! The Mackie Onyx mixers have up to 60dB of gain on their mic preamps, so plenty of gain for most situations! If you are struggling getting enough level on some dynamic sources like an SM7B that require a ton of gain, you could always look at adding an inline preamp like the Cloudlifter. If you want to dig into this really cool console, or talk about others, just give me a ring! Drake Sobehrad, Sweetwater Sales Engineer, (800) 222-4700 ext. 3271, drake_sobehrad@sweetwater.com
