Nope, I just need to understand this machine properly and your configurations are exactly what I needed. I was surprised with the 'call-in during podcast' scenario. Great video, looks really professional. One question that's still not clear... can you get a clean signal out of a mic input via USB to my DAW while the vocalist has some reverb/FX in his headphone mix? I suspect not and that the USB out to the computer includes the FX but would really appreciate if you could clarify. Thanks again.
@Featherlightstudio11 ай бұрын
That’s correct, it’s only a dry signal to the DAW when recording but…..reverb is one of the easiest FX to use while your actually tracking. Simply make a send from your vocal track to a reverb AUX in your project but make the send “pre” instead of the usual post and then drop the track fader to zero. Then enable input monitoring on the track….boom reverb while tracking but not recording.

Great video, so I have to thank you for this! One question though; by having the audio come into the board from the computer via USB, would this not do the same as mix minus?
@Featherlightstudio9 ай бұрын
hmm, mix minus is really just any separate mix that excludes something from the main mix like a phone ect. The more busses the mixer has, the easier it is to create but, smaller mixers have to balance the buss count vs size.

It REALLY depends on your use case I have discovered. If your looking for a quick way to send audio to a small mirrorless for KZbin ( the duplicate set of 1/4" outs ) or, a quick little live mixer for a songwriter or a Duo and your primary concern is portability, then the Mackie. But, if your use case is recording, especially multitrack recording involving you the engineer AND a performer, the Soundcraft is better in almost every way. Both can do mix minus in a pinch. Both have GREAT preamps.

Thank you! I would like to ask. Can I use the "5/6 Line in" input for a mic that has with a 3.5mm TRS and TRRS cable (for example like the small Boya-mm1 cardioid mic)? I would need the main two inputs for stereo recording purposes (two Hi-Zs), and sometimes I need to add my voice. ( I know that an audio interface handling at least 3-4 channels could do that, but this Mackie could be a more economical choice for my purposes. (I am also considering the Yamaha AG03 MkII which has one XLR input, and only one Hi-Z input, but a friend of my use the line level L+R inputs for stereo guitar signals with the high gain knob turned on and it fits for the purpose...)

By which output sockets would you connect to the "Audio In" on a DSLR camera? "Phones" or "Main Out"? Of course, none of them without using an attenuation adapter to dampen down the LINE strength from the mixer before going into the camera as the "In" socket in the camera is expecting much less input. Else, it gets blasted.
@FeatherlightstudioАй бұрын
@@byronbrimstone5163 the 1/4” main outputs are easier to find cables for going into a cameras input. A dual 1/4” TS to 1/8” stereo TRS cable is more common than converting the Main XLR outputs. I’ve been able to go direct into my Nikon Z series camera this way, by turning the mains WAY down, without having to use an attenuator, the Mackie is very clean. But you would have more gain control using an attenuator.
@byronbrimstone5163Ай бұрын
@@Featherlightstudio Thx a bunch for taking the time to reply. In my current setup using an ALTO ZMX52 with a SONY ZVE-10, I go from the "AUX Out" (L/R) in the ALTO into the Audio "In" on the DSLR using an attenuator cable from Movo as the last link in the signal chain before hitting the camera's "In" and it works great. Audio turns out super-duper like this and I expect to do something similar with the Mackie I just ordered half an hour ago ;-) The great thing about this kind of set-up is, that you can "pre-produce" your audio before hitting the camera, so you don't have to mess with prettying up your audio in-post when doing Talking Head videos (in fact, most videos). Saves you a ton of time. Feel free to pass on any tips you may have for this kind of set-up. Might even be a good topic for a whole video in itself. One problem of this mixer : when I use headphones to monitor (press the [to phone] button), the microphone sound I hear can only be the maximum FX effect, which is inconsistent with the actual setting (which is also main out).
@Featherlightstudio3 жыл бұрын
The Red Phones knob has a switch directly above it that can be used to monitor the Main mix ( up position ) or the AUX send ( down position ) However, when monitoring the AUX send if you have any of the FX engines on, you will hear the full return level. This is because the mixer only has (1) AUX channel and shares it with the FX. You would need a larger mixer with more than 1 AUX channel to have independent control over both levels However, if the Red knob is in the (UP) position, you will be monitoring the Main outs and hear the correct balance of FX.

Hi and thanks for this review! Today I connected my Samsung S22 phone via USB-C to USB-B to this mixer. Well, I was able to hear the music nice and clear on my headphones, but zip from the Main Outs! I tried pushing and tweaking the various knobs like USB 3-4. I had to turn the Blend knob all the way to the right of course. But no luck listening to music from my cell phone via the mixer and my PA speaker. Duh. We could argue that the mixer does not recognize the cell phone output as USB 3-4 but then how come I hear the music via headphones!!?? Would be delighted to hear suggestions. Oh by the way, some months ago I did fool around with the USB to my laptop, and the USB In and Out worked fine. But then I got an EVO 8 Audio interface, and so retired the USB functions of this mixer...:) The mixer connects to a JBL Eon One which I use for listening to music and also for karaoke.
@Featherlightstudio2 жыл бұрын
Heh Raja, if your getting sound to the JBL then the outputs work so, sounds like a settings thing. For recording, the 'TO PHONES' button has to be depressed AND the Blend knob used instead of depressing the 'USB 3-4' button. This sends computer/USB playback only the the headphones by design and records the 2 mic inputs. If, instead, the 'TO PHONES' button is in the UP position and you depress the 'USB 3-4' button, the Blend knob is disabled and the USB playback now shows up on Channel 5-6 knob along with the rest of the mixers inputs, and it all goes out the Main Ouots.

I have noticed on my MacBook, it will reset the 3-4 Outputs back to default 1-2 when I restart the computer sometimes. The 3-4 USB return to the mixer is great for screen recording, zoom, computer/DAW audio, KZbin, ect but BAD for Direct Monitoring. However, playing through the guitar FX in Garage Band ( a.k.a Direct Monitoring ) requires another set of outputs NOT tied to the Main outputs which the ProFX6 is too small to have. The larger version of this series have this extra output called 'Control Room' that allow you to do this through BOTH the headphones and the Monitor ( Control Room ) outputs. You could ( in a pinch ) get adapters for the headphone output and run that into your monitors but the level would have to be very low to avoid distortion.

Since you have the 2 Mackie 212 powered speakers already, just about any unpowered mixer will work for sure. The FX6 is great if you want the absolutely smallest mixer that still can be used as a recording interface but you may want a slightly larger one that has more than just high and low shelving EQ. A 3 band EQ will help you sculpt the drum tone easier like the EQ on the Pro FX10

The Mackie can only record 2 tracks simultaneously to individual tracks inside a DAW like Pro Tools. So, while its possible to record the Main output of the mixer ( all inputs ) they would still just be (2) total tracks ( Stereo Left-Right ) If you need to record 4 or more independent tracks into Pro Tools at the same time, you probably need to jump up in price. Something like the new Behringer FLOW can record 10 independent tracks as its USB interface is 10 x 2.

There are many active Bass pickups that have enough actual voltage output to go directly into a regular line input but, most likely, that will still be fairly low volume on the audio interface. The idea behind a good DI input circuit is to allow the head amp to provide the correct impedance and work inside it's optimal gain range without having to boost / Cut too much.

I can't get the sound to route to the main outputs over usb. It only routes to the headphone outputs. Does anyone know if this is fixable?

Sounds like you may have the 'TO PHONES/CR' button depressed (right under the 'BLEND' knob)... OR... you need to assign you computer playback audio to use the Mackie's 3+4 output and depress the USB 3-4 button on the last mixer channel.

Hi! Is it possible to use all channelss for multitracking? Im looking at this mixer to record 3/4 instruments simoultaneously, does this Mackie allow me to do this?
@Featherlightstudio3 жыл бұрын
The Mackie can only record (2) channels independently in to a DAW BUT, can record the Main outputs as well. Recording the Main outputs would allow you to record ALL the input channels at once ( channels 1-6 ) but you won't have 6 separate tracks in your DAW, only the 2 ( left + Right )

This or behringer flow?
@Featherlightstudio2 жыл бұрын
They are completely different animals. The Flow (aside from being almost 100 dollars more) is completely digital and relies on its companion app to gain access to all the mixer functions, of which there are many. The Mackie is analog and prioritizes hands on control. The Flow can multitrack 8 channels but tops out at 48KHz/24 where as the Mackie is only 2x4 USB but can record much higher quality at 192KHz/24. Its really a question of what you need most.

Mackie’s don’t last! Small clean home keyboard setup, channels fizzle out over time. The old stuff ie 1604 etc. are different. All the new stuff WREAKS, two in a row gone bad!

Mackie? They are usually not known for truly high quality audio signal
@Featherlightstudio2 жыл бұрын
If the mixer features any of the Onyx preamps in them they are! They are extremely quiet, high quality preamps with very little coloration. If your looking for vibey analog character look elsewhere, but the if you need faithful, high quality input, that you intend on coloring later in the mix, they're very good.

Can I plug this into a 3.2 USB port and it work ??
@Featherlightstudio2 жыл бұрын
The ProFX v3 line of mixers is 'class compliant' so it will work with all versions of USB. You may need to get an adapter to go from USB -A to USB-C
The FX are good quality but the larger boards have better control over them.

Terrible mixer.. It randomly alternates between outputting audio from pc and inputting the microphone audio to pc, never both, just by powering it on and off. Just awful.
