I live 50 miles from the island. Our local National Guard is a bridge division. What you saw was simply a training exercise. They have practiced on most of our islands. Evacuating Mackinac Island would not be a priority. Glad you were able to witness that. I enjoy your videos. I subscribed.

I live in the area, coming back to the Island is a tradition. Come with your own bikes or rent them. Avoid the busy season if you can. When friends and family come to Northern Michigan, taking them to visit Mackinac Island is always a wonderful experience. Visiting the Island in the winter is an entirely different and majestic experience. I am on the cusps of moving away from Northern Michigan and it is heart breaking. It has been my home for over twenty five years. It was a dream of mine to live here as a child. I will return now and again if the fate allows.

What a splendid tour of a beautiful island. Excellent photography! Very romantic comment about you and Rhonda watching Somewhere in Time together in 1980. Dottie and I watched that movie, too, on our 14" color TV when were living in New Mexico. We had been married almost 2 years, so still newly weds! It was very entertaining. Dottie thought it was a movie set until I showed her what the hotel looked like. She was surprised. We're surprised y'all didn't buy any fudge. The floating sections the soldiers were assembling were pontoons. You can make docks on lakes or oceans, or bridges across rivers with those. It looked like the troops were practicing receiving and assembling pontoon sections in real-world conditions. Of course, no one was shooting at them either. Thanks for the tour. It was spectacular. Cannot wait for next week's video! Safe travels and God bless y'all. Bob and Dottie.

Hello Bob and Dottie, when Rhonda said it was one of the first movies we saw together that was in the 90’s we have only been married for 30 years. That movie has always been one of my favorite movies. I think the conversation was how they fell in love so quickly and Christopher Reeve died of a broken heart. I just had to share it with her. In 1980 I just graduated high school and Rhonda was only 11. lol. I did not meet Rhonda until 1993. I must admit I fell in love with her the moment I saw her. However, 12 years later Somewhere In Time still had a huge impact on me as one of my favorite love stories not to mention the incredible music. It will be Rhonda’s birthday tomorrow. I can guarantee if anything ever happened to her I would die of a broken heart. Thank you for joining us. We hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving. May God bless your holiday season. Stan and Rhonda❤️

Nice video, looks like you had a great time. While you were at the Fort you should have had lunch at the Fort Mackinac Tea Room, the view is amazing. I would encourage you tp spend one night on the island next time as well. There are many great motel options downtown. After about 7:00 pm when most of the day visitors have left the island the downtown area slows down and that's a great time to check out the shops. Several bars have entertainment as well. I would also suggest taking the ferry from St Ignace, the lines are shorter and parking is much better. Enjoy.

Mackinac Island is truly a special place……we go over and spend 4 days or so there. It is really a very special place that is a totally quiet special place when the day tourists leave the island each day, we have been there 9 times previously and come back to the island from Nevada each year. This year, 2024, will have us there for a week at lilac time in June and again for Halloween weekend at the Grand and for the fall colors. We have run races on the island, hiked all over, biked both the perimeter and thru the center of the island, kayaked across the straits to the lighthouse, been to both forts several times, stayed at several of the bed and breakfasts and hotels. We play 18 holes of golf on both the Grand/Woods course and Wawaskomo courses each time they are open. This year, I plan to do parasailing. The island is a very favorite spot for us to return to each year…..and I hope we can return and be active into our upper 70s and more. We have done several KZbin movies on Skip and Cherie Adventures……enjoyed this movie and reminders of one of our favorite spots in the US! Loved seeing the military air lifting gear there in a training exercise ❤️❤️❤️❤️

Mackinac Island is an island and resort area, covering 4.35 square miles in land area, in the U.S. state of Michigan. The name of the island in Odawa is Michilimackinac and "Mitchimakinak" in Ojibwemowin meaning "Great Turtle". It is located in Lake Huron, at the eastern end of the Straits of Mackinac, between the state's Upper and Lower Peninsulas. The island was long home to an Odawa settlement and previous indigenous cultures before European colonization began in the 17th century. It was a strategic center of the fur trade around the Great Lakes. Based on a former trading post, Fort Mackinac was constructed on the island by the British during the American Revolutionary War. It was the site of two battles during the War of 1812 before the northern border was settled and the US gained this island in its territory.

@OverTheHillAdventures

Hello Randal and Patricia, we have read and heard that too! All we did was pay the extra fee for our e-bikes. They never asked us if we had any disability. To be honest they are not allowed to ask you. Nevertheless, no one asked us at all. I’m not sure if it was shoulder season but our Class 1 e-bikes are good to go. I think everyone is trying to catch up with e-bikes laws. Primarily our e-bikes don’t look like e-bikes. However, when we got onto the island there were lots of folks with e-bikes that were clearly not disabled. I even saw Class 2 e-bikes that are strictly forbidden. Hope this helps! Stan and Rhonda🙏🏼❤️

The place where the dock was being built is British Landing. During the War of 1812 a large force of British and native Americans landed there and dragged a cannon to high ground overlooking the fort. The American garrison didn't know war had been declared and was forced to surrender.
