When I sail overpowered, I would place my front hand as close to the front end of the boom as much as possible for control. Since the the boom of the Slick is placed much closer to the front part of the leading edge than most wings, I believe that helps its high end range better than some other wings. I wish they've done the same to the new Unit.

Keep in mind that hand placement has a lot to do with the shape of the wing and foil section. The Slick is more forward but the Unit is more centrally balanced in the hands so it's not necessary to have the front hand placement as far forward. With the Slick I find my front hand is almost always pinned at the front but the Unit I ride with my front hand about 5-7" back. -Tucker

100% I do the same thing with my Slicks. Makes a huge difference in the gust

compared to the nova pro and mode pro ? both with booms ? love your videos, good work 😃
@MACkiteboarding13 күн бұрын
Lighter than the Pro wings but also less stable. Nova pro has more high end, Mode pro has a LOT more high end but not as much low end. -Tucker

What do you think will happen to the slick? Since now the unit has both handle and boom options?
@MACkiteboardingАй бұрын
No news on that yet as it's a spring release but I'm assuming they'll keep the Slick boom as-is and push that wing even further into that speedy type design. -Tucker

For sure 👍 all of us with the platinum 300 buck boom will want that higher end racing slick

I've heard good things about the Unit. I'm coming from Armstrong v2 wings which seem pretty similar. Out of curiosity, you referred to "wings at the opposite end of the spectrum" which you prefer. Can you give me an example of one of those, and perhaps a wing in the middle of the spectrum. I mostly do wave riding but I really want some decent upwind performance and ability to tack a little better out in the waves.
@MACkiteboardingАй бұрын
Some wings at the faster, more forward pulling end of the spectrum would include the F-one Strike, North Mode, Ozone Flux. Some middle ground wings would be Duotone Slick, NP Fly II Pro, North Nova. -Tucker

Well the XPS Armstrong is outstanding in higher winds
@bmrbca3658Ай бұрын
Actually Duotone did kill the Golden goose. No 2025 Slick.

hi, thanks for the video! I wanted to ask you where are the caps to put in the central holes? I have the boom but the caps were not present in the box and my dealer told me that he does not have them... thanks

They first ones were a stick on patch but they are making some new ones which twist in. -Tucker

Handle "packability"! (i.e. wing folds in "half" vs. "2/3")...new bag design/addition (think: kite bags with bladder still inflated extension thingy)
@MACkiteboardingАй бұрын
Yes, the Handles are nice if you need to pack it up really small without removing the handle/boom. Although for day to day packing and transport it's not much of an issue. -Tucker

For wave riding I always thought you want the smallest possible wing, so grunty low end power is the way to go. I am I thinking wrong and should consider a bigger wing that has much higher top end than the Unit? I have only used Mantis wings which are grunty low end wings and aren’t that good in the top end. I can use my 4 m in as low as 13 to 15 knots and switch to a 3 when it’s over 20 knots. It’s really nice sailing those smaller wings. But I don’t know what I may be missing. Would it be better to use say a 5.5 that feels comfortable in 30 knots?

How would you compare it to DLAB 2024 /grunt and speed/? Thanks!
@MACkiteboardingАй бұрын
Faster. Maybe a little less grunt but it'd be hard to say for sure without riding them back to back in light conditions. -Tucker
@pastyadventuresАй бұрын
I think if you are tall and have long arms the handles are better as they sit much closer to the strut. so better for pumping and sheeting in

Can you put the boom on older models?
@MACkiteboardingАй бұрын
No, it's a different design -Tucker
@zosterinskiАй бұрын
I wonder why they don’t make the boom with a kink in it, so that it has the ergonomics of the handles but it’s a boom. Best of both worlds (though i am fine with a straight one)
@MACkiteboardingАй бұрын
I think it's probably because it puts more torque on the connection points and would be a lot more expensive to produce. -Tucker

What would you pick today if upgrading your 2023 Slicks. You really like your slicks and prefer the boom. Let's pretend that a 2025 slick is not an option.
