Seems I still NEED and Ad-blocker that I can choose and install from Safari Extension options such as AdGuard for Safari. I wish Apple would integrate Ad-blocking options like it does pop-up window settings without having users install 3rd-party ad-blocking programs.

great video. You mention midway through the "Overlay" screen, the screen with the HTML data of the same site, that pops up over the website page, when I open up a website. Any advice on how to stop this? I've looked thru all the help areas and it all goes back to my Mail preferences, which is not what I want. I'm not sure what else it is called. Look in Safari, Preferences for a way. I don't remember what the steps are for that old version of macOS, but it should be in there.

I don't recommend any Adblock app. The people who work to create content rely on the ads to pay their bills. While MacMost.com is now ad-free (thanks to its Patreon supporters!) it wouldn't have gotten to that point without being ad-supported for the first 10 years. Personally I find if a site's content quality isn't worth being bothered by annoying ads, then I stop going to that site. Otherwise, if the content is worth it I don't mind the ads knowing that is what makes the content possible.

That does something different. That blocks parts of the site, usually ads. I hate ad blockers and don't use them. Sometimes they cause trouble. Other times you are just hurting the very creator of the content you are enjoying/using. MacMost.com is ad-free today (thanks to my Patreon supporters!) but it would not even exist today if it didn't have the ad revenue from the earlier years.

You can also click on the popup window icon to the right of the address bar, and it will open that "waiting" popup window.

@@tee12moore71 Do you mean the summary you get if you click on the button at the left side of the address field? That will only appear if Safari can detect and summarize an "article" on the page. So it won't be there for all pages. That's really got nothing to do with this video which is from a year ago. That's a new feature of macOS Sequoia.

Is blocking pop ups similar to content blockers? I see that option in settings similar to where you went to block pop ups, and in safaris menus I also see the option to refresh with content blockers (or maybe it’s refresh page without content blockers).

No. Pop-up blocking specifically blocks pop-up windows. Content blocking will block parts of a web page like ads.

The reason is probably that they are not pop-ups but simply elements ON the web page for the particular site you are visiting. Or, perhaps they are something else entirely -- hard to know without seeing what they are.

Are they pop-up windows (actual windows) or just overlays on the content on a site. A website can put whatever it wants on the web page as content. This feature is to block new actual Safari windows from appearing.

Nevermind. I found out that it was READER VIEW. I HATE it I did not ask for it. I went into my settings and saw that it was ON for every site! I had to turn them ALL off! How is it possible that this was a thing? I never heard of this before. Last year it just started happening. NOW, it is automatic? These hacks...yes, I am annoyed because I. never set my computer to this. Does it happen when you update the computer? Thank you.
