Everyone was afraid to admit to be a friend or clansman, knowing that they would be the next to be targeted by an unjust legal system. Seeing someone taken down by treachery, and then lynched that should have been pardoned, will do that. Any man with the fearlessness and presence of mind to play the fiddle and dance under his own gallows deserves respect. Anybody lacking the ability to give that respect, also was not deserving of the fiddle.

Reading up on this tune and the history behind it, brought so many emotions. History repeats itself.

I was taught by my forebears of Clan Hay(Hough is a name from an adoption of me da)about this moment and that we always give a slow nod of respectable intent at the hearing or reading of any name from Clan MacPherson.

I wonder if he had the opportunity to hear it before he died ... or if he was like Mozart and never heard his last piece/tune. At least you did him the honour to play it! ;-)

The Dark Isle Angel again pipes with Heavenly voice giving sacred pause to yet another sabbath morn. May ye be a blessing to many here that would hear your voice, and may ye descend again to play yet another breath of Heavenly sound. Amen.

Sing for my Mother Clan Hope Farewell, ye dungeons dark and strong The wretches destiny MacPhersons time will no be lang On yonder gallow's tree It was by a woman's treacherous hands That I was condemned to dee She stood uben a windae ledge And a blanket threw o'er me Sae rantingly, sae wantonly And sae dauntingly gaed he He played a tune, and he danced around Below the gallow's tree Oh what is death, but parting breath On mony's the bloody plain I've daur'd his face, and in his place I scorn him yet again Sae rantingly, sae wantonly And sae dauntingly gaed he He played a tune, and he danced around Below the gallow's tree So tak off these bands fae 'round my hands Gae to me my sword For there's no a man in a' Scotland But I'll brave him at a word Sae rantingly, sae wantonly And sae dauntingly gaed he He played a tune, and he danced around Below the gallow's tree So farewell night, a parting night And all beneath the sky May coward shame distain his name The wretch that dare not die Sae rantingly, sae wantonly And sae dauntingly gaed he He played a tune, and he danced around Below the gallow's tree Sae rantingly, sae wantonly And sae dauntingly gaed he He played a tune, and he danced around Below the gallow's tree
