I realize that is an older video, but I just started taking up macrame and I'm so happy I found your channel. I followed your directions and was able to make a beautiful hanging. I actually entered it in an art gallery Folk & Fiber Show and won second place! I was very surprised as this was my first actual piece of macrame that I felt comfortable entering in a show. Thank you so much for your generous time that you take to teach others the joy of macrame.

Thank you, Patricia! I am glad you like the video. I have the color cord available in my shop. The colors are not exactly the same because some of them got discontinued, but I put together a set of colors that work well together. Here is the link to the listing www.etsy.com/listing/1169620639/ If you are planning to make a hanging as large as the one I made, you will need more than one set of color cord. Please let me know if you have any more questions and will be sure to help as much as I can.🙂

@fibersofmine
@fibersofmine Жыл бұрын
@@patriciag.l5881 You will need less of some of the cord and more of the others. For example, the lightest mink color that make the shortest color strips, you probably will only need a 100 feet. The aqua color next to it and the dark blue you might get away with 100 feet too, but It is hard for me to say, because everyone is different and some people use more cord than others depending on how you knot. I would say that you definitely will need 200 feet of the Jean Blue and Ocean Teal. So I would recommend to get one full set of colors and get additional 1 Jean and 1 Teal. When you start working you will see how much you are using and you can always order the color that you are running out off. I usually ship next day, so you should receive your order as quick as UPS delivers it.

Hi ,very beautiful work, can you advise me please if i want to make a curtain with the same pattern, the basic cord how much mm should be, and the color cords!? Thank you in advance
@fibersofmine
@fibersofmine 2 жыл бұрын
If you want to make a curtain, you would need to improvise some. Not only with the rope and cord, but with the design as well. You would need to omit the horizontal dowels, for example, to make the curtain move freely. The 3ply rope I used for this hanging was 5mm which is thick and stiff enough to support the hanging and keep it flat. If I were to make a curtain I would want it to be flexible, so I would probably look for a soft 3mm, 3ply for the natural base/skeleton portion and 3 or maybe even 2mm soft single strand color cord for the colored section.

Hi, i love this piece. I’ve never done macrame before so im trying to order the correct sizes and im a little confused. I read on website but still a bit confusing. So the tan cords are 5mm. But then it says 4 or 3 mm for the other cords. But which cords should be 3 and which should be 4? Are the colored cords all 3 or 4? Thank you 😊
@fibersofmine
@fibersofmine Жыл бұрын
Hi, thanks for reaching out! Yes, you can use either 3 or 4 mm for the color cords and the 3ply twisted rope for the skeleton of the piece should be 5mm. For this piece I used 4mm color cord, but you can use 3mm if that what is available to you in the colors you like. I hope this helps :)

Hi Suzy, Thank you for reaching out! I used 44 cords in my piece, In order to have 4 equal color section most of the groupings are in three, but I had to use some groupings of two to make it work. Those groupings of two are under the darkest blue color. Depending on how wide your piece is, you might need to figure out your own groupings so the hanging doesn't come out of balanced. I hope this helps :) .

As to your second question. I think you can use the pixel technique with square knots if you want. but i would suggest using horizontal double half hitch knots if you would like to create recognizable pictures. I will be making this with 4mm rope, will I be measuring my rope a little shorter?
@fibersofmine
@fibersofmine 3 жыл бұрын
I think you can leave the measurements as they are. I got feedback from few people that 120" in 5mm were too short for them. This usually depends on many variables, like the way the person works, their tension and the rope manufacturing. Some rope can be more softer than the other and therefore will be more playable. Mine was super soft, but I ordered 5mm from a different supplier recently and it is much stiffer. So, to be on the safe side, just keep it at 120". I hope this helps.

@fibersofmine
@fibersofmine Жыл бұрын
Hello, thank you for reaching out! I didn't create a written pattern for this hanging. The video explains how to make it. The lengths of the cords you need would depend on the size of the project and how tight or loose you make your knots. So it is hard for me to predict how much materials each person would use. However, you can see from the design that there are more strips of some colors and less of others. For example, the lightest mint color is used only four times for the shortest strips, so that is the color you will use less off. The color that goes on either side of the longest, dark blue strip will be used the most. I hope that makes sense.

Is the total length 120 inches when I fold it to do the Lark's Head knot?
@fibersofmine
@fibersofmine 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, the total length was 120" folded in half for me. But I had a few comments where other makers said that was a little too short for them and they didn't end up with the fringe as long as mine. So, I think you can go longer to be on the safe side, 140" or even 160" and see how it goes. Everyone has different tension and what I am learning is that I have much more tension in my work so I use a bit less cord. You will have to figure out how you work to determine whether to use more or less cord that is recommended in the tutorials. It probably doesn't sound helpful at the moment, but it does become easier after a while when you figure our your own style by working on more projects. :)
