I am new to macrame and knew absolutely nothing about it. I have watched hundreds of videos that didn't do it for me. I couldn't understand the instructions, the person making the video or to much in the background, like elevator music. Then I came across a few of your videos and was blown away. Not only are you a beautiful macrame artist, you are easy to watch, listen to and teach in a way, well, that doesn't get on my nerves. Your voice isn't nasally, monotone or sounds like Barry white. The videos are like a one on one which makes me feel good when I watch them. I have learned more in 3 of your videos then hundreds of others trying to share the same information. Please keep making videos. Your pieces are not only beautiful but very inspirational as well. Thank you for making your videos.

oh my god im just getting started. I havent macreme'd since i was about 8 years old.... so im 38 now. I want to eventually make wall hangings but my primary reason for getting into it now is i want to learn micro-macreme! and make jewelry with it. I have purchased several macreme necklaces off etsy and I love every single piece i get! I love the unique-ness of this kind of jewelry. I subb'd to your channel and I am slowly going down the list of videos. I dont even have any cord yet, I am just practicing on regular yarn I used to crochet with. I will upgrade to cord when I have learned the basic knots!

Thank you, this was very helpful. Other questions I have are how do you get the angle of the fringe cut the same on each side? Another question is how do you keep the yarn or cord from crinkling up when you are going to send a completed project to somebody?
@annabaginova012 жыл бұрын
To answer your first question - it's tricky! 😅 The easiest is to avoid the cutting all together which is what you can do when you are adding the fringe pieces onto the bigger macrame because then you can just cut all of your fringe pieces the same length before attaching them. If it's already on I will either eyeball it or measure the length from wherever the fringe starts and then do that for each piece I am cutting. As for your second question I've never had to worry about that since all the pieces I've sold I handed them over personally...When I was transporting my pieces somewhere I would roll them up but then I always had to fix them up a bit when I unrolled them again.

Love your work and and learnt so much by watching your videos. I am wanting to do a wall hanging in 5mm Bobbiny Braided Cord but not sure how much extra cord needed as it is a 4mm cord pattern. For example- 400mm length of 4mm, how much extra cord in 5mm would I need please?🥰
@annabaginova01 Жыл бұрын
I am glad my videos have been helpful for you 🙂 I don't have any personal experience with converting the measurements like that with the different cord thickness but I think I have seen a table somewhere online before that has those conversion rates. I would probably add like 10-20% but that's just a rough guess...
@diptigampawar97883 жыл бұрын
Hi, that was really helpful. Thank you for your tips. I have made chandelier and I wanted fringe but no matter how much I brush it again twists. I have used single cord size 4mm.If possible please demonstrate. And what about washing these. Need your tips. Thanks in advance
@annabaginova013 жыл бұрын
Hi Dipti, I’m happy to hear it was helpful 🙂 yeah, the fringe is tricky. The shorter it is the more it stays straight, that would be my main advice. The only time that a fringe on my piece stayed completely straight was on the wreaths where I’ve used the fabric stiffening spray on it. That could also be something that you can try. But again - the shorter it is the straighter it will stay. For the washing I have never really done that on anything so I am no expert there but I would prefer using a duster rather that putting it in water. I have once dipped a piece of a wall hanging in water and you could clearly see where the water line was because the cord changed color. So that’s why I would not recommend it.

Anna, I have made a few small macrame pieces. I planned a large piece out. I started with 3 rows of square knots. I did make the knots tight. I next wanted to make a horizontal line across the piece using the double half hitch knots. The line of half hitch knots came out longer than the above square knot pattern. I also have a place planned in this piece that will be wavy. I had gotten that far and the line of double half hitch knots got long again and snaked back and front. Very wonky. I have watched many tube demonstrations and find your posts to explain how to solve problems well. Can you help me to get my double half hitch knot lines to stay straight on the edges and not snake in and out?
@annabaginova012 жыл бұрын
Hi Michie, I think I know what you mean although I would have to see a picture to be sure. But in general when I can see that my double-half hitch lines are getting a bit too long I will just cheat a do a few knots of single hitches only (I just do one loop instead of two). I always separate those single ones with some double ones in between them to make sure none of the knots will unravel. I hope this helps for your future projects.

Another way, which would give us a lot of work but only once, is to have a sample notebook or folder. In different thicknesses of thread, weave a sample of each knot that we usually use. We stick it to a sheet or cardboard and right there we will make all the necessary annotations to keep a record of that particular knot. That way we will have a more accurate record when budgeting our work. I hope it works

Hi Ana. Thank you Ana for sharing this video. Can you document why you do the 4 of the second formule of the complicated pattern, please? ((A*4)+B)*2 I can't see it but do you use 6cords (3 pairs)? Thank you.
@annabaginova013 жыл бұрын
Hi Sophie. The 4 is there as a general multiplication for all the knots you will be doing in that section, this is the part which is not very precise as we are not counting the exact number of knots we are doing and instead we just multiply the whole knotted section by 4. And this really depends on the pattern - if it's really thick with knots you might need to multiply by 5 instead just to be sure you have enough cord. And vice versa if the pattern is very loose multiplication by 3 might be enough. So I usually go with 4 as the middle ground. I hope that helped to explain it. And yes that one section I was showing it on had 6 cords (3 cords attached with the lark's head knot) but this doesn't have any impact on the formula and measurements.

How much shorter (maybe a guess of %) should the outside cords be vs the inside cords when making square knots?
@annabaginova01 Жыл бұрын
Good question but I have never measured this. When I do square knots I am either alternating them so all the cords need to be equal as they are all switching between inner and outer cords or if I am doing a solomon bar (using the same cords and just adding square knots below) I make the inner cords the same length as I want the finished length to be because they are not getting shorter at all. Not sure if this helps...

Hi, I like precision so thank you for making this video. You have clearly given it a lot of thought. However, how do you account for the fact that the middle strings in the square knot are not used up to the same extent as the outer strings? It becomes even more complicated as usually you'd have alternating square knots so it's not the same strings that are in the centre. Or do you just ignore this and go for the largest length based on measuring the outer strings?
@annabaginova013 жыл бұрын
Hi Chrissy, that's such a good question! I am talking about this a little bit in the video in my final tips (around 14:10). It really depends on the pattern, sometimes you can definitely account for this - like I did in this video with the spiral knots kzbin.info/www/bejne/bIWZkoVujcmLrqM. But other times the pattern is more complicated with lots of different knots and then it would be too time consuming to figure out which cords will get shorter and which won't. So I always keep it in mind and depending on the pattern I decide whether to adjust the cord lengths or not. I hope that makes sense 🙂

You mean in terms of the length that you would cut? I think the 3ply and single twist cords should be the same, the braided cords are a bit more stretchy so those can be slightly shorter (but only very slightly 😉). I've done a video on the different cords types so that might be interesting for you as well kzbin.info/www/bejne/b6eqk4B6rsSJfM0

How do you price your macrame projects time or materials
@annabaginova01 Жыл бұрын
I use both time and materials when calculating the price. Here is the video on my pricing process kzbin.info/www/bejne/omXTlWqqbJtjna8

In the example of the green wall hanging, how do I calculate how much smaller "c" will be in the following equation? And another question I have is how to count how many times "B" in the equation? You mention an example for the second batch of ropes where Bx4 but then the next batch will be Bx6, is that correct?

Hi there, so the C is the fringe and you basically need to estimate it, let's say you would like your finished piece to be about 1m long and you know you want about half of it to be fringe so that makes C = 50 cm. In the example of the berry knot wall hanging I was making the fringe was getting longer and longer as I went from left to right so I had to count with that as well. The B is the knot and this is why it's very important to sketch your piece if you are using this method because in the sketch you will see how many knots (=B) you have so you know what number to multiply B with. And yes, you are correct, I am mentioning Bx4 and then the next batch would be Bx6. I hope this helped but please keep asking if you still have questions, I know this is complicated.

@@annabaginova01 Thank you very much for answering, I tried to do it without having seen the calculation turorial and the result was disastrous, the threads were short and I was very frustrated until I found this new video. I will try again, thanks for your help!

@@solenoide86 Oh I know the feeling, still happens to me today (especially when I am too lazy to calculate anything 😁). But there also many ways how you can knot in a new cord when the original one is running out. I haven’t made such a video yet but if you search for it on KZbin you will find a few of those.
