Macron's 'Troops In Ukraine' Talk Wins NATO Nation Finland's Backing; 'Keep Russia Guessing'

New NATO member Finland has come out in support of French President Emmanuel Macron's push to send troops to Ukraine to help it fight against Russia. Finnish foreign minister said that Macron did the right thing to maintain strategic ambiguity. Elina Voltonen said that though there was no pressing need to send troops to Ukraine, Macron's remarks would keep Russia guessing whether the collective West will deploy troops to Ukraine or not. Finland was third world country: not part of USSR's or USA's blocks, but had good relations with both. President Kekkonen had idea that it is good idea to have good relationship with major powers, but extremely important to have excellent relationship with major power who are next to you. During Kekkonen was president, Finland had agreement with USSR, that if West Germany attack against East Germany, Finland will together fight against West Germany. Otherwise it was more like Yugoslavia, which was not in ally or enemy of USSR, nor part of it.

@arifsoon8638, Finland has never been a Soviet territory. However, Finland belonged earlier 108 years to the Russian empire as the autonomic Grand Dutchy. Stalin wanted to eliminate independent Finland and annex her to the Soviet Union in 1939-1940, but that attemp failed. Russia would now had several easier targets than Finland, which is well prepared for a conventional war. I know it having lived in Finland for 71 years and also seved in the Finnish army.

France will very probably send some soldiers to Ukraine before the end of this year. However, I don't beleive, that at this stage those soldiers would be combat troops, but more in several supporting roles as trainers and advisers. But it is possible, that later also combat troops from several NATO countries will go to Ukraine to help the Ukrainian army. Glory to Ukraine ! Glory to the heroes !

"Borders to the Urals!" (during WWII was slogan of Finnish fascist political party known as "IKL" or "Isänmaallinen Kansanliike" - "Patriotic People's Movement". IKL and Kansallinen Kokoomus ("National Coalition") party, which member Elina Valtonen FM is, were allies and helped each others to gain power in Finland. Finland was attacking side with Nazi-Germany in 1941 against USSR, but made ceasefire in 1944 and changed sides since it was clear that allied will win the war. Finland was part of siege of Leningrad, which killed masses of civilians of the city.

In the 1933 elections the National Coalition party lost 24 seats, IKL was there for the first time and took 14 seats. In the 1936 elections the National Coalition party gained two More seats, IKL remained at 14. In 1939 NCP Lost 3, IKL lost 6. So in reality, any co-operation between those parties did not bring them to power. They never even combined got the 42 seats NCP had before the 1933 election.

National Coalition lost places because of the alliance, since IKL was more radical and more reckless. IKL was fascist party, which adopted styles from Germany and Italy, having uniforms in parliament. National Coalition, which tried in 1918 turn Finland to kingdom, was in 1930's and 1940's pro-fascist party. In cold war era, till today, they been pro-USA party. They always been supporters of hierarchy and inequality, no matter is it monarchy, fascism or pro-USA capitalism what they are supporting. They never really changed.

@@fallenswan1670 I know this and that about IKL as my grandfather was an IKL member of parliament. More than anything, IKL was an anti-communist and anti-Soviet force. It also had an anti-democratic background as it was formed after the failed Mäntsälä coup to promote the same ideals in Parliament. IKL was not exactly anti-Semitic, but that was due to the fact that there were so few Jews in Finland that it did not become a real issue. It seems obvious that my grandfather destroyed all his letters and papers from his Parliament era before his death in the 1960's; that would be interesting reading now.

Fascism is not really ideology, it is reaction, phenomenon. While Hitler had doctrine and ideology, but that ideology was still based on same base ideas, ideas that you can hate some group of people and seek exterminating them. People who do not really focus on politics, not understand society, just realise, that life is suddenly hard, and they just seeks some group to be blamed, and some agitator will point, some times it is communists, some times it is jews, some times it is immigrants, some times it is arabs or muslims... Anti-itellectualism comes before they are blamed from anything. Umberto Eco talked well about this in his essey "Ur-Fascism" - "Eternal Fascism"). -- I am myself mainly Sámi person, but I have Roma and Russian roots too. So, some of my ancestors came from India, some came from Russia, present day's Leningrad Oblast or some other nearby regions. And during my life, I've met (and spend time with) people from all continents. And lived in poverty whole my adult life (but had opportunity to live in Russia some time, see the people, and there I met lot of African people, people from Middle-East, people from Indonesia, Bangladesh, Latin America... even few People from USA or Scotland. People who went there to study (often avoid war in their country), or who just had interest to see the country and its people, just like I was.
