Macross Plus - The secret best Macross?

Macross Plus is one anime I come back to again and again. For me it's right up there with Ghost in the Shell and Akira.

Macross Plus is definitely top tier. Personally I prefer the movie version, I think the added scenes towards the end really help make everything click, but both versions are great regardless.

I always wanted to do a super edit, pulling some scenes from the movie into the OAV that I thought worked better for the characters.

it's peak macross. stuff still feel like they have physics and not just zipping around the screen. music is great too.

The ova is my favorite version, especially episode 4. Information high by yoko kano is something truly special, i can verbatim the entire dialogue between yan and isamue before the re entry just as the chorus kicks in. The blue ray btw does not use the original voice actors so i recommend cutting the audio and overlaying the audi for the blue ray

macross plus set the bar so high and was so grounded that you could easily overlook the sci-fi elements. When other Macross series air you go in expecting More Plus. But get confronted with weridness that leaves you scracthing your head.

I bought this on release in the US. It was great back then, and its great today. The music was phenomenal, and the CG was insane. Its still great even today.

its no secret. Macross Plus is the gold standard to which all other macross and on a wider scale, a lot of other animes are judged. (at least for me) - also the original manga dub is Coyboy Beebop level. a younger Bryan Cranston as Isamu Dyson, Steve Blum as Marj, Beau Billingslea as Millard. Daniel Woren (the voice of Roy Fokker from the harmony gold dub of Robotech) as Yang Neumann . the animation is beautiful, the action is great, and the story is a lot more grounded than some of the later macross plotlines :p (and then there is the master work of the OST by a very early Yoko Kanno) this is the seed that sprouted some of the greatest animations in history. Macross Plus ranks up there in my top 10 films / series of all time. I am a HUGE scifi nerd and this series flips all my switches :)
