What's crazy is that in the novel, there was only ONE JAM fighter in this scene. It still managed to destroy 8 of the Japanese Navy's planes before Rei shot it down. It really illustrated how unprepared Earth is to fight the JAM.
@ProjectSun9110 жыл бұрын
Yeah, the FAF were better-equipped to counter the JAMs than the Earth Militaries are due to the fact that they lack the technologies and ECM to deal with the JAMs. Something that the FAF simply doesn't share or transfer that sort of technology with Earth which Jack even explained that the Earth Military were horribly outmatched by them. Kind of like a Cold War going on between the FAF and Earth.
@sparrowlt9 жыл бұрын
I didnt readed the novel but still i dont understand why earth was SO outmatched... i mean the war against the jam had been going arround for 30 years and earth could beat them in the begginning before pushing them back into fairy.. one would expect millitary tech was better after 30 years ..specially the units guarding the gate
@AICW9 жыл бұрын
sparrowlt Well the guy above explained it briefly but I'll go more in-depth.Military tech IS better after 30 years... but for Earth, it's only a LITTLE better, whereas for the Faery Air Force, it is A LOT better.Just look at real life military projects. It took almost 24 years for the F-22 Raptor to come into service: it started as the Advanced Tactical Fighter Project in 1981, and was officially commissioned in 2005. It only began flying actual combat missions last month (dropping bombs on ISIS). The F-35 Lightning is just as bad in this regard: it keeps running into delay after delay and the cost is sickeningly huge now (can you believe the F-35 was supposed to be combat-ready by 2010 and it's still nowhere in sight?).The FAF has been in a state of war against the JAM for 33 years, so that is why their technology is much better: their R&D is much more streamlined and cannot afford delays. That's why the FAF has hypervelocity missiles (for comparison, in real life only a few countries have barely started on high-velocity missiles, namely India, Russia, and China), portable laser turrets, and AIs on their craft that we can only dream of. But they absolutely refuse to share their technological breakthroughs with any Earth government, and this really pisses off the United Nations and other national governments in the novels (specifically, Japan and America).As for the JAM, yes, we were able to beat them in their first invasion. But JAM technology has also improved by leaps and bounds because they are constantly fighting the FAF. The anime takes a different tack and claims the JAM can only improve by copying FAF advancements, but in the novels, it's an equal match: the JAM and the FAF both design new technology and copy off each other. The novels make it clear that if the JAM try to do a second invasion of Earth, they will win easily because their improved technology now outclasses all Earth militaries and only the FAF are an equal match for them.Earth militaries are more stagnant because one, they're not fighting a constant war for three decades, and two, they don't have access to the kind of data about the JAM that the FAF do to start new R&D projects that would be effective against them.
@sparrowlt9 жыл бұрын
thanks.... i would find quite weird that some organization like the FAF wich probably exists from the UN would keep all developents away from earth forces but since i didnt readed the book i guess there is some explanation for that. Also in the end of the anime i got the impression that maybe the JAM let earth win the first war because its hinted that war is their meanings of understanding other races and winning right away wouldnt let them understand much (or maybe i was reading too much into that)

It's scary to know that real life F-22 engine power outstrips that of Yukikaze. The original novel which this anime was based on was released in 1984 and the author had not forseen how advanced fighter planes would become at the time. They had to readjust Yukikaze's engine specs when making this anime

I love how when he switches to RAMJET at 3:58, the engine power goes up by a factor of at least 10, causing both the A.I. and the pilot to almost loose control as the plane bucks from the increase of impulse so rapidly. Pushing through the air at sea-level at more than mach 2 takes an ENORMOUS amount of thrust. The air is like water at that point. I would guess that those engines would be generating at least 150 megawatts each at that point. I wonder what kind of fuel that plane would use as small as it is? Something way beyond methane-boron-hydrate.
@waynecampeau45664 жыл бұрын
@UCUIm2RB9h2os9yDiBKaig1w Yeah, but right after this they are bingo fuel and land on the carrier to refuel. So they are multi-fule engines, or did the carrier just happen to have Faery fuel on hand? I watched the series when is was 1st released in the US, but I really don't remember. I suppose I should go back and re-watch it. :)
@nickl56584 жыл бұрын
Maybe Hexanitrohexaazaisowurtzitane in some liquid carrier?
@AICW3 жыл бұрын
@@waynecampeau4566 It's likely that the carrier did indeed have Faery-spec fuel on hand. Remember that this scene was because Lt. Fukai and Major Booker were coming back to Earth as part of a scheduled engine test. That would require the Faery Air Force to coordinate with the United Nations authorities to set it up in advance.

The blipping of the plane wasn't a standard warning alerting them that they were about to fall off the carrier. Does anyone else kinda think 6th gen fighter planes are going to resemble Yukikaze? It's still a manned plane but it has a semi-sentient AI on board that allows it to excel at data collection and control drones for combat operations. I also note that the aircraft in this show have pretty much no stealth properties, and we seem to be seeing that stealth fighters are way too expensive and impractical. The F-22, F-35, T-50, J-20, and J-31 all have major shortcomings, mostly in terms of cost or underpowered engines. The standard Sylphids that the FAF uses more resemble 4.5 gen aircraft, even. This is ironic, considering that the original novel for Yukikaze was written in the 1980s and yet the author, Chohei Kambayashi, painted a surprisingly accurate picture of the future of aerial warfare.
@KyoChan197920028 жыл бұрын
+AICW Kambayashi graduated from Nagaoka National College of Technology. I will not be surprised if he is accurate in what he describes in this sci-fi anime. Besides, this short anime series is based on his later work published in 2002, which is Sentō Yōsei Yukikaze . For so many years, Kambayashi should have updated the technology described in his sci-fi novel. Anyway, enjoy! xD
