The 705 is a great radio but as a plastic block it hard to know how to mount it. Fortunately they have a tripod threaded mount on the bottom and that's what I used as a starting point and as they say, the rest is history!

Hi David - What type of coax are you running up the Spiderbeam to connect the N9TAX?

LMR 240 because it's operating on VHF/UHF. While RG-316 is lighter it's way too lossey on VHF/UHF. RG-316 is OK on HF frequencies to a length limit. Watch my video as I compared the two types of cables and their loss on my power meter. kzbin.info/www/bejne/enrQaICKZdGKqNksi=L6EUlFwu-F0odAMg

That's a good question because I noticed those options are available in the drop down in HAMRS program. I wonder if there are rules if it has to be simplex or you can use a repeater. Regardless (notice I didn't't use irregardless (a pet peeve of mine)) most repeaters are quiet 24 x 7 so you might get more contacts even if the bands are dead. Anywho 73 and thanks for watching!
