In this video we are heading to one of my clients to install a few more Ubiquiti Unifi protect cameras. This was the first time I had been to site and it was a bit of a mess. We ended up taking a bunch of old equipment out of the network rack, Installed a new Unifi 24 Pro PoE switch.
We will be re-doing the network room , removing all the gear from the rack and putting in a wall mount. So make sure to subscribe to see that video

In the US it is illegal to place cameras facing bathroom or shower/locker room doors. Hallway to it is iffy depending where you are. This comes from talking to many business owners i know that have commercial and industrial properties across most of the US. A few have had lawsuits regarding cameras facing problematic bathrooms and locker rooms. In my area it is illegal to place cameras facing bathroom doors, locker room doors or shower room doors, unless you have permission from a local judge and a few signatures to make it "legit and legal".

What a mess before you got there. So much better after you cleaned it up. I can't imagine how the previous installer/cabler though that CAT5 (>=) cable can be stripped and terminated in that manner. In what world does that even look close to being correct? Absolutely blows my mind. Nonetheless, excellent work - and great video!

Don't forget why it is a mess to get it neat and tidy it requires a lot more money with more switches and patch panels. Also with those cheap rack mount non keystone patch panels, you have no choice to strip the sheath back and have the conductors exposed, you need 8-10cm of length to terminate them. The keystone rj45 can be rather expensive each too.

The company I switched to, all the cabling is a disaster. They left 2' in the drop ceiling and put a RJ 45 on directly into the switch sitting on a ceiling tile. The jacks in the walls are stripped just like yours but they unwrapped the twists.... I installed a 12u rack and made patch cables with keystones on each end. Panel now looks nice and organized but uptop looks a little sketch with 20 keystones all hanging out 😂

Hey Cody, aside from the grommet do you put in any dielectric grease? I've done this with my outdoor cams - nothing crazy just some inside the jack before terminating the wires and then a coat around the RJ45 port to prevent water from seeping in. Just wondering if it's overkill.

1) If someone trips in that cable mess your client could also be sued. 2) tidying this up will cost less in the long run for your client, those non compliant cables will cause issues and that’s more call outs. 3) insurance, a broker or claim assessment go give out an unfavourable impression and jack up your insurance cost or even be denied a claim for not having compliant cabling

From my experience, if water is tracking down the cable into that camera, the grommet alone may not be sufficient to prevent future water ingress. I feel that poor waterproofing is the biggest problem with UniFi bulletin cams.

@jamesalexw
@jamesalexw 4 ай бұрын
In the controller go to unifi devices in the left side bar, select your gateway in the list and then in the right side bar you should see port manager. Click that and then once you can see the list of ports click on one of the WAN ports. You should then see config for the interfaces and which ports are LAN and WAN. If you are using an older USG you need to click on settings on the right panel and then configure interfaces.

I should probably make a video on this. We charge a set rate for the cat 6 cables ( it’s going to be different around the world) but typically between $130-$160 per run cat 6 plenum ( Canadian) The rest would really just be time . So how many hours it takes to put the cameras up times our labour rate
@MaddMo

Why would you change the previously PROPERLY configured network topography by moving the UNVR uplink from the USW to the UDM. So the UNVR can get what, a 10Gbps link to the UDM, but only a 1Gbps link to the USW (where the cameras are) or a 1Gbps link to the internet? You didn't gain anything, and now you're unnecessarily putting the camera data across the UDM rather than just keeping it all on the USW. Dumb.
