Great interview, a real jarhead . I also was with the 198th light infantry brigade which is the Americal 23rd infantry division chu Lai. He was with a very decorated unit. What a American hero. Work also with the 176th aviation Americal they were known as the judge and executioner in the secret war in sog ccn 1970 when I was in the Americal. Unbelievable warrior's mindset!!!! He looks good for his age???

Did anyone here know a Ranger named Bob McClure, a 6'4, redheaded Texan from Abilene? I was fortunate enough to call him and his wife, Robin, friends. Records show he died in Huntsville, TX around 2000. He served 4 tours. He helped me with my moving business and was so much fun to work with. They left out of Salinas on a train to Fort Benning, around 87 and that's the last time I saw them. He was toting a green, iron Remington typewriter, working on his memoirs. You guys were tough!!! Thank you for your service.

Thank you very much for this interview and for Sneaky and too his presentation. I just crossed back into America on the wait to a home?. I didn't watch much video down there due to some limits and currently injury. I am happy to have found this Channel. His topic is relevant in real time for me & all US armed services. I was drafted at a very young age & trained by fine men like him from Vietnam WW2 Korea. I hope it doesn't take 25 years to talk about it, but we understand Pine Tree Training. I am awaiting debrief from my Civilian duty station and a reversal of discharge into ranks before exit back to hopefully a non toxic civ life. I may have to remain under fire until after Nov.? I appreciate his honesty and I hope to make some similar frends ( small group vets GIs) with combat experience who have the same skills in communication speaking or coooking in the kitchen without talking. Thank to all of you, currently, this channel for your service to OUR Country.

It's amazing any SoG Vet gets to tell his story as all branches of service who were in country associated with anything SOG... all logs, or evidence they were involved with just extracting them let alone being SOG was erased. My dad was checking logs for times he was on LST's extracting SOG from Cambodia or even DMZ... and logs are empty lost or somehow misplaced.... yet everything else is still in the Logs even in going into Cua Viet under General Quarters. Just say loaded troops there and took 'em to Okinawa, etc! ...You got to feel for SoG going for benefits... as they can't get 'em. It's like they never served... it's a total miscarriage of justice... over 50 yrs later!

Sneaky White made my day for his story is one of a warrior, a first class warrior and the kind of man many would want to be! As a squid (yea, I heard him mention squids...) who spent some time vacationing off Yankee Station ('66, '67), he is a fellow brother who understands the great need to support our fellow vets who have followed since--as best as we can! He is the reluctant warrior that stories are made of and who others look up to...because he earned such honest accolades, such as a "real hero of Viet Nam!" I was US Army, got out about a year and a half after returning from Desert Storm. I talked to a guy back in my old unit and he told me a couple months after I got out they started to prep for a deployment but were not told for sure where they were going. They made a wild ass guess it would be Bosnia or Somalia, it ended up with them sending some detachments of "Stinger Teams" (a two man team that uses the shoulder fired short range heat seeking air defense missile) which if I'd stayed in I would certainly have been deployed with them. I never got a chance to talk to him again so I don't know how their deployment went or where in Bosnia they were positioned. Later I was a mechanic at a Harley Davidson dealership and we hired a new service writer that had deployed to Bosnia with the Marine Corp. He would only talk to me about that deployment, I was the only other veteran working there. But even with me he wouldn't say much and he really seemed to be having a lot of trouble dealing with whatever he saw or did over there. I am familiar enough with what happened between the Serbian and the Croations and I should probably count my blessings that I avoided experiencing those horrors. I hope that your people have managed to heal whatever traumas you were forced to endure.

Here is a thought. By the end of the war there were probably a very high number of the enemy running around either solo or in say pairs of three that you couldn't count them. They knew how to live off the fat of the land. (The animals were probably scared shitless of humans) The guys didn't need tunnel or holes. Big thing is they would be able to spot SOG track them ...Etc. so the politics here at home was a losing battle they were everywhere in country. (Like Afghanistan we left BAM Taliban just waltzed right in returned the place back into the stone ages). There were lots ot people just right outside of Vietnam waiting to congregate waltzed in and overrun the place. Like it or not Vietnam is what it is today. Since like forever the place called Vietnam has been prime real estate. Kind of unfortunate for them...all the war that they have seen
