I played all these as a kid. My grandma had Deja Vu, and we had Shadowgate at home. My older sister rented The Uninvited but I couldn’t play it because it scared me too much 😆 All those scary faces were too much for my 7 year old mind.

My absolute favorites. I got the pleasure of getting to play them on an original Mac, and the NES versions are just so, so good. Hours spent on each of these.

I never got to play these way back when, but I hope that more of them end up going the Shadowgate route by getting updated versions. Maybe I can find some of these on Ebay or local game shop. Good to see that FNA videos are still coming. Looking forward to the new format. Happy Thanks giving to you and your family. Congrats on the new additions. Cheers, Aaron!

Seeing a Friday Night Arcade video with "MacVentures" in the title is second only to seeing one with "Quest" in the title :) Even if this is just a compilation video, it's always worth a rewatch since you're such a fan of these old point 'n click titles. Congrats on having healthy twins and everything's all a-okay on your end. Glad to hear you have lots of ideas for videos, and I think it's totally understandable if life stuff takes priority - taking care of twins seems crazy right now, lol. It's always a pleasure whenever FNA uploads, so the vids are always worth the wait! I also just kinda assume you may be tackling some new adventure games after that Space Quest 3 redux video. I mean, now that you found that 3D remake, and I feel like everyone dug it quite a bit, I dunno.... it just seems like you'll be able to expand the breadth of "Quest related" adventure games you show off in the future as long as viewers enjoy it. I mean, I bet people would like to see what you think of more fan homages, whether they're unfinished stuff like that 3D Space Quest demo or a full blown game like Heroine's Quest or The Silver Lining. Heck, considering you're such a fan of MacVentures, I'm sure you'll get to reviewing something like Infested someday too (and if you haven't seen that: grahfmetal.itch.io/infested ) or Spectacle (grahfmetal.itch.io/spectacle ). Y'know, like how you did that From Beyond: Prologue video. So take your time; prioritize your family and get vids out whenever you can. As long as the quality is still high, we'll all be happy :D
@EpicLebaneseNerd4 жыл бұрын
Ah, shadowgate, the game with the best 8bit music ever made, and the best screen transition, so good that the remake has an option to turn them on. it was a weird game for me and my brother, it was one of the first games to have us think outside the box (other than snake's revenge) and sadly, we only rented it and never finished it, many years later, more like decades later, i sat down and played it and finished it and felt great, it is a great game and one hell of a classic nes game that is truly an eternal piece of software.

Thanks again for doing this. I commented on some of your single reviews for these games. I still love em! Again I truly appreciate you covering these 3 amazing NES games. Thank you again for that! :D Also there a game on the Eshop at the time of this post called Swordbreaker The Game. Its more of a interactive deciding what to do next, but it has multiple choices leading to different endings as you read what happens next to some amazing visuals. But be careful you only have 3 lives per adventure and if you lose all of your lives its game over and you have to start all over. However it keeps track of your progress of the rooms you've venture through per adventure if your curious to see what also happens. Lots of trial and error. It truly feels like a Shadowgate game minus the point and clicking items. Check it out if you've never had the chance play it. Its an awesome game! :D Thanks again for your time.

All of them showed up on the NES except deja vu 2, however, the game boy color would receive a deja vu compilation that included it. I remember being a kid and seeing screenshots of the various NES titles in the series and thinking they all had to be from the same game because of how many menu assets and art design similarities they shared, so I had this vision of this weird detective series with ghosts and monsters.

Congratulations! Also, I think going with several games in the same video is a good idea, those are always the videos I find the most interesting and it seems like they get the most views and likes too.
@FridayNightArcade4 жыл бұрын
Thank you! And yeah... I try not to focus too much on "view count" and stats, but the fact is those videos always just seem to do better. If I make a video about one interesting game that nobody has heard of, people seem to pass it by, but if I include that same interesting game in a longer themed video along with a bunch of other games, then more people can hopefully find out about it. Plus if I've only got a limited amount of time to make videos due to the family, it just makes more sense to try to focus on the videos that the most people are interested in.
@Carnelust4 жыл бұрын
@@FridayNightArcade I don't think having the performance of videos in mind is necessarily a bad ting, especially when you've got as much on your plate as you have. Doing re-runs (except when making a statement such as this instance) and pumping out reaction videos might be a liiittle on the rough side of things, but that's pretty far removed. Also, Shadowgate for the NES was actually localized and released in Swedish here, which is very uncommon, usually we learn English partly through playing games and watching movies that aren't translated. The NES was far gone when I was a kid, the SNES too, so I found an old copy somewhere and predictably didn't like it compared to new games but I still felt nostalgic watching your videos about it. I actually went back and watched a full playthrough of the game.

Deja Vu and Shadowgate were top ten favorites for me. Many summer days spent with them. Deja Vu wins between the two for me. I loved games with "real world environments." I was transported right out of my hot little North Carolina apartment to 1940s Chicago with that one. Seriously. It was GTA V real for me. 😄 I was unable to find/play Uninvited til a bit later, and o really like it too...but it doesn't have the cozy nostalgia of the other two.

'Uninvited' was the game that introduced me to the Macintosh, and the use of a GUI, and a mouse... It was also a somewhat refreshing change to not have to worry about mistyping a command in other text-based adventure games... Come to think about it, I remember that at least on the Mac version, if you completed the game, you could then print out a personalized certificate of completion... (Same goes for the other 'MacVenture' games...). It's a shame that these games never got ported to the modern Mac OS (although, technically, they can still be played through an emulator, like mini vmac, provided you can find the original disc images).

Can't plug this enough, but check out GrahfMetal Games on itch.io. They've put together two modern NES MacVenture titles called Infested (space horror themed) and Spectacle (set in a long dead Arabian-esque kingdom). Infested is quite good, but Spectacle is excellent. Both are inspired by Uninvited and Shadowgate but never feel derivative, and even throw in a few fun references here and there without beating you over the head with them. They're both completely free to download and play. Highly, highly recommended.

Cool stuff. Too bad Deja Vu 2 was never released on the NES, only much later on GBC. Wish there were more games of this sort on the NES released in the West. There were quite a few in Japan (generally murder mystery/detective stuff, with some exceptions here and there), mostly they were at least somewhat more VN-like though - and that's the direction JP games took later on, too, instead of the puzzle-heavy western games.
