Watching these cutscenes made me realise this is a prequel game to the Mad Max Fury Road movie, not a sequel. It explained where the Magnum Opus came from, and more importantly who that little girl was in the movie. I actually really like that

This games story messed me up. The whole new wife and daughter thing after he already lost his previous woman and daughter just added insult to injury and was so emotionally brutal. I so bad wanted to choose to take them and leave and live safely and happily with them, but that ending..... Only games story I can say made me shed a tear.

Well, that the point of the mad max series. He's mad, obviusly. He doesn't care about anyone but his car, seeks an inexisting place and kills anyone who gets in his way. But then he meets Griffa, Chumbucket, Hope and Glory and when he's going to recover his humanity, he loses all of it and turns into an animal once again.

I've never beaten the game, as I simply lost interest despite being invested in the Mad Max world. But damn, I have to say they really captured the spirit of the franchise in this game. I don't really see why people don't like it for what it was. People say it's not connected to the past films, or that it takes a combination of different things throughout the series - but I'd argue that's a good thing. It's more of an original story rather than being a rehash.

@@themangledwither Documents pertaining to the concepts, world and lore of Miller's work? If so, it'd be really interesting to check out. I wonder if they're available anywhere. Don't get me wrong, I did not think the game was great by any means. At best, mediocre. I was only saying that I thought they captured the world of Max fairly well. The world of Max always had the potential of being rich with lore and intrigue, however, we've never really got much from the films and other extensions of the property. Much like how the world is depicted in Mad Max, the lore revealed throughout the franchise has been quite dull and barron, with the exception of the over the top gangs. Perhaps the vagueness adds to the intrigue though.

But yes the mad max game was made using concepts from future movies Miller has planned. One of the main ones I can think of is dr dementus. Matt Tom hardy I think was a different version of max who had changed and became more silent and insane, keeping all of his thoughts in his head even more than before, for example he didn’t tell furiosa his name because he doesn’t want to become a normal human anymore. All he wants is to have his car back, but then destroyed it, but I think he will rebuild it again.

Look for "Any Rebel's" comment on this video for his explanation of Max's character arc in the game and once you read the conclusion of that you'll realize that final cutscene Max and Fury Road Max are practically the same. @@Tony-1971 That's because this game basically steals all the ideas George Miller and his crew had been developing for decades regarding the Mad Max universe. Everything in Fury Road has a backstory and many elements for sequels were written years in advance. This game cannibalizes on all those notes and designs, and there's no credit to Miller and his coworkers. Also, one must understand that Fury Road was conceived 100% as a final sequel starring Mel Gibson, until the pass of time forced Miller to have to pick a new actor as to not alienate the audience with such a controversial lead on an already forgotten franchise (Heath Ledger was originally set to play Max but, well, he passed away). Thus, the finished screenplay for Fury Road is almost the same as the one intended as the final outing for Gibson. To make up for inconsistencies or backstories that are not explained in the movie (mainly, the little girl Max sees in flashbacks), which, again, this game took advantage of, there's a neat miniseries of comic books published by Vertigo that tells a similar story to this that fits canonically before Fury Road.

ChristCarsAndCountry68 I thought that the game takes place after the movie, well, i don’t have that much evidence it does and there is an easter egg of Fury Road in a mission the Hope gives you (It’s a side mission, it gives you the extra sniper ammo.) Where you can see the War Rig trashed in a tunnel, and the fact the Scrotus is the supposed son of Immortan Joe, but much than that there is no actual other evidence if the game take place before or after Fury Road.

This was one of the best games I had played in awhile when I got to it early last year. I'm a huge Mad Max fan, and this game was everything I wanted from Fury Road, but didn't get. Well crafted world made by people who clearly understood the Mad Max universe, and despite having to throw in elements from the lesser movie (Fury Road), they completely succeeded in creating their own unique take. There's no excuse to not pick this up now since it's dirt cheap, and that's not a reflection of it's quality (usually less than $7!)

I thought the story was a bit so-so until it got to Gastown. OMG... that race against Stank Gum was crazy hard. The fights aftwerwards were very entertaining. But that end... that cataclysmic thing the game forced me to do right before the final fight against Scrotus... That was rhe most dramatic thing I have ever... seen... in a video game... OMG I was sooo messed up after that. I spent 50 hours of liberating territories before advancing the story, so Chum and I have gone such a long way together, driving from stronghold to scarecrow to camp to sniper... When that happened I was hit harder in the feels than any movie or game ever did to me. Good job, that was amazing. Such feels. Ppl say that all the time about Game of Thrones, but that's BS, idc about a character dying in GoT. THIS is the real deal. Oh... My... Goodness... I just did NOT see that coming at all back then.

Max's dog was saved from being euthanized by the filmmakers. One day before he was to be put to sleep, members of the crew visited his shelter looking for a pet to cast for the film. He was picked out from several other dogs, due to him picking up a rock off the ground and playing with it like a toy. The crew members realized the dog could have a real presence on film, and had the potential to be trained. This movie ended up being the only film in which he would appear.

I loved all the mad max movies and the game I’ve played over a hundred times. Just the atmosphere of a world descended into nothing but madness and decay always seemed cool to me. I feel the same on the inside so I reminisce with the feeling of the wasteland itself. Barren and gone to shit. But peaceful. My dad got me into the movies. It’s a weird touch seeing the interceptor go through so much abuse and having the surroundings take it’s toll on her as well as max’s mental state aswell. A rust bucket she became but she once shined in the day time. But like the world it fell apart too. The whole series is a warning to all of us that this could potentially happen one day. And we are all thinking survival is a game now and very few if ever happens, will cross the finish line.

To be honest, the story is not that much of a burner.. so to speak, still this game has a lot of Potential and Avalanche aren't some clueless fops. IF they listen to the feedback provided by the Fans such as the 2 of us.. then they will consider improving the game.. and make it a real Open World Experience. Tell me, have you played The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt? THIS is what I call an Open World Experience.... it is ALIVE... and so should be the World here in Mad Max. Of Course it is a Wasteland and Postapocalyptic Setting.. still.. there is a lot to improve there.

Avalanche does a lot of things better than the one or another Developing Company. And belive me, I wait and see what Avalanche will bring us next here. I hope they will do something with The Dunes and the Big Nothing in the Future.

Ive been watching and thinking, Max looks like he isnt older then...30-35 or so in this game, and in the first movie he was like 20'ish and society was kinda functioning still, so the apocalypse wasnt more then...10-15 years ago? The intro guy jabbering about "Those born into it" and Chumbucket doesnt really make sense in that regard, since those born into it would just be 10-15 years old in this game and Chumbucket seems older then that so either he was born derped like that before the apocalypse or he was "speed mutated" after it.

I would take the first mad max movie with a grain of salt in terms of the story of Mad Max. The first film had a budget of like 600,000 and was more of what they could make do with. There's an interview with George Miller in which he said the Road Warrior was the theme he originally wanted to go for but budget constraints keep him to make do with what he had in the firat mad max

to apocalypse hes been going on for around 30 years, the game is a bit misleading but in fury road all the war boys are born after the apocalypse and most are at least 20 years old. There is a theory that mad in fury road actually isn't max but the feral boy from number 2 other wise max would be some what of an old man.

After finishing the story (PS4), I could still see Hope and Glory on Deep Friah's temple. After several legendary encounters, Glory seems to have disappeared and Hope doesn't even comment about it. Is this some sort of glitch? Or is merely one of Max's delusions?

+bogoid The little psychotherapy sessions between Max and Griffa were the most interesting part of the game for me, and actually really intelligently and well written. Who ever wrote that dialogue was obviously a fan of the movies and had given maxe's character a lot of thought. Obviously it was someone who knows about the loss of loved ones and what it does to some people. I doubt you could write that stuff as well as that without really understanding what it means.

To anyone wondering, yes this Scrotus is the same we see in Furiosa. His younger in the Furiosa Film. They added him to canonize the Game. Chumbucket is the one that gives Furiosa that crappy car towards the end of the Film, his name is in the credits and Dementus and the 40 Wasteland War is mentioned in the game. Obviously Scrotus took credit for the defeat of Dementus.

Honestly, I heard of the name "Mad Max" before and thought it was the bunny from "Sam and Max" and shit or something cartoony or hokey like that. But I ended up enjoying the story. It was a good story. Doesn't make me want to play the game with the many fetch quests (I don't even have the system for this anyway), but good story nonetheless.
