George Miller's ability to cast actors for the character of their faces approaches David Lynch levels. This scene is a menagerie of super distinctive faces. The station attendant, the Toecutter, Bubba Zanetti, Johnny, they all look so strange and otherworldly. That fucking sound effect at 3:24 is like some "Mulholland Drive" jumpscare, and the woman in the car at 1:18 looks almost nude...Miller knew how to grab the viewer's attention, is for damn sure.

Simply brilliant filmmaking. The point of the film: it's not just the good guys versus the bad guys... it's actually good and evil competing for the minds of the youth. Toe Cutter promises freedom via no rules and doing whatever you want. FiFi promises fast cars and heroic patrolmen. Notice that Goose is a goodguy version of Bubba. I watched this film 47 times... the original Australian voices are better.

@@jefftoll604 The USA is like Australia and vice versa. It's one thing for a Californian to laugh about a break down. Most of their clubs run from LA to San Francisco. It's a whole other game when your bike breaks down in the middle of Kansas, Utah, Nebraska, or Eastern South Dakota. I've seen the motorcycle clubs driving to the giant motorcycle gathering at Sturgis, SD in Western SD. There is a shop van truck - driven by a woman or an old guy - following the bikes that can instantly repair them. I would *never* trust my life to a Harley on a drive through the middle of no where Arizona or California. Honestly, I've never been able to figure out why you can bet your life on a Japanese machine but not vice versa on an American.

Its kind of funny how the MFP are supposed to be the police of the future (since the film was made in 1979 and set sometime around the mid 1980's, evidenced by the sign outside the Halls of Justice that says "Main Force Patrol, Est 1983") yet at the crash site you can see actual Victorian police cars and officers and what they actually looked like around this time.

I initially thought the town was Nihill, got on google maps and found out it wasn't It is Clunes apparently. The architecture of the shops look kind of similar though. That ambulance logo looks pretty cool. Ford F100s make more of an impressive appearance in the second movie.

That's because the movie had a a shoe-string budget, it was actually on the Guiness world record for most profitable movies for decades because it was such a hit and cost so little to produce. Almost all the vehicles were donations or belonged to the cast, the blue van you see destroyed during the Nightrider chase belonged to the director.

That because the MFP isn’t the regular police. They are specially trained for high speed pursuits on Australia large highways where gangs where robbing semi trucks transporting goods.
@MarineAqua45
@MarineAqua45 3 жыл бұрын
The Main Force Patrol was not meant to be a police force that ran all of Australia,in the future,as it was set up,by the Australian government to combat marauders on the vast highways,who robbed people & road-trains,carrying supplies (Like fuel & other consumable goods) that were meant to be rationed,by the Australian government,following the fuel crisis. The MFP was a section of the Australian,Federal Police,whose officers had basic Commando-training, advanced driving-training,first-aid/combat-medical, hand to hand fighting training,etc,taught to them by Australian Commandos. The Accident Appreciation Squad of Victoria Police,dealt with road-accidents & pursuing the Toecutter was the job of the MFP,unless the Toecutter went into the city of Melbourne,where the Victorian Police would chase him & his gang. It was implied that Max himself was a former Victorian Police constable (A probationer Police Constable,I think?)who was recruited into the MFP,as he was a top-performing policeman-according to Terry Hayes novel,where MFP personnel were mainly recruited from the various regular police forces.
