Seems to me that the V8 Interceptor had more screen time in Mad Max than in Furiosa, so to me, it will always hold up.

The character and world building are among the finest in modern cinema imo. Miller makes you care about every character and watching the slow decline of Max's sanity is perfectly executed. This movie is all about 'show, don't tell' with almost no exposition. A very serious dark drama with the right amount of comedy and action to relieve the viewer's anxiety without turning the entire story into a farce. Not only my favorite Max movie but probably my favorite modern era drama. It's nice to see others appreciate it the way I do.

Finally someone recognises the dark humour in this film. There are so many great lines. Jim Goose- "He sings and I tap dance.". Fifi -."For God's sake, she was the town bike."..Toecutters exaggerated "Ugh, I hate guns." I've always been amazed that Mad Max found an audience in the U.S given the woeful dubbing that took away the nuances of the Australian accent that adds to the impact of the dialogue. Kudo's to you for recognising Hugh Keays-Burns malevolent but humorous portrayal of the Night Rider.

Watch Mad Max from the point of view that Johnny the Boy is the son of Night Rider, and that Toe Cutter has taken him under his wing to show him the way and toughen him up. It makes perfect sense. There is even a scene when Bubba Zanetti tells Toe Cutter that Johnny the Boy will never be like Night Rider. Johnny the Boy is Night Rider's kid!!

I like all the mad max movies but the first one is my favorite the 2nd one was my favorite as a kid because it had more action but I like the story line of the first and to see max go from normal to becoming the road worrier.

I recall when the movie released they dubbed the Australian cast with American voice actors. Both Gibson and Schwarzenegger suffered this indignity before they became famous. Gibson subsequently managed to obliterate his accent so he could play American.

MAD MAX is a criminally underappreciated film. There is more brilliant use of film language in the first ten minutes of this film than there is in all of virtually every mediocre piece of dreck you see at the multiplex now.

Of course it holds up, their was never supposed to be a continuation, only a degradation of humanity, that’s why his car gets destroyed, how else would you maintain vehicles with everything they require..rob ager has a good video bout this, this is a good video though.

I watched this film just a few days ago and I thought it was really bad. The pace was too slow and we only get to see mad max within 15 minutes from the end of the it, which by the way was right when I started fall asleep sitting in my chair and almost fell four times. Anyway, seeing you analysis made me appreciate it a little more, and maybe I'll revisit it in the future. Thanks for the great video.

Same thing happened to me a few days ago. I tried watching this movie 3 times and fell asleep every time. So boring and slow.

Yes, most definitely. As a kid I liked Road Warrior more than Mad Max, but as an adult I see the nuances and subtlety in it that I missed and how in your face Road Warrior was in comparison.

that happens with a lot of movies from the past. I've been on a binge watching movies from the 60's,70's and 80's and everything looks like gold compared to "movies" now.

@Aryan-dr5ix but much slower and it would have given her time since we see that Max arrives quickly after she is run over

The first one and the thunder dome one are both terrible. Road warrior and fury road are the bangers
@motor4X4kombat4 ай бұрын
let me put it this way while fury road is the modern spectacle film that road warrior use to be for the franchise in the early 80s, furiosa is the modern twisted revenge film that the original mad max use to be in the in the late 70s. I mean its the story of a capable silent loner (max/furiosa) that lives in a world a the edge of total colapsing (70's australia/ the green place) that loose a family member (max's wife and son/ furiosa's mother) from an excentric gang leader (toecutter/dementus) and eventually loose a best friend (goose /jack) in a pretty grim scenario where there isn't that much action and more acts of unplacent violence, and both ended with the main character getting his revenge but dosn't know what to do next for how broken they became until the next film where they finalle fight for a purpose. Hell watching furiosa first before fury road is like watching the original mad max first before road warrior. as for beyond the thunderdome does that will become mad max the wastland? kzbin.info/www/bejne/aHmtqayXZaiKmdE

Mad Max is better than all the related movies following. It wasn't a 'sequel' movie, and stands alone...and always will. No help necessary. The rest NEED Mad Max, as it's just meaningless nonsense, without it. 🤷♂️
