Haunted by his turbulent past, Mad Max believes the best way to survive is to wander alone. They are escaping a Citadel tyrannized by the Immortan Joe, from whom something irreplaceable has been taken. Miller directed from a screenplay he wrote with Brendan McCarthy and Nico Lathouris. Miller also produces, along with Doug Mitchell and P.J. Voeten. Iain Smith, Graham Burke and Bruce Berman serve as executive producers.

Oscar-winning filmmaker George Miller’s “Mad Max: Fury Road” revisits his own post-apocalyptic trilogy featuring the anti-hero known as Mad Max. Tom Hardy stars in the role of Max Rockatansky, alongside Charlize Theron, Nicholas Hoult, Zoe Kravitz, Riley Keough, Hugh Keays-Byrne and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley. Miller directed from a screenplay he wrote with Brendan McCarthy and Nico Lathouris. Miller also produces, along with Doug Mitchell and P.J. Voeten. Iain Smith, Graham Burke and Bruce Berman serve as executive producers. “Mad Max: Fury Road” is a Kennedy Miller Mitchell production. The film will be presented by Warner Bros. Pictures, in association with Village Roadshow Pictures. Scheduled for release on May 15, 2015, it will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company, and in select territories by Village Roadshow Pictures.

The stunts and the prop work in this movie were freakin' AMAZING. No CGI bullshit, just real craftsmanship. If you asked me whether I preferred 3D or practical effects, I would say practical effects, every time. There's just something about real props - the way they're lit, the sense of mass - that is difficult for 3D artists to reproduce. And I say that as an amateur 3D modeler.

they did it in Road Warrior (Mad Max 2) back in 1981 as well, with even less protection. not even a crash cage. if you pause it you can clearly see the driver perform it with a crash helmet.

@@beacher50_ the movie truck had 2 V8s in line but its not clear if the real one had one or two .. one of them could be a mock up. EDIT: I just looked up... it had "just" one engine.. first it had a 275hp V8 ..then they swapped it with a 600hp KHD Deutz BF 8MC 1015 V8 diesel racing engine.. but it had only 1 engine.. meaning the other one was cosmetic (tought yes.. the "fiction" rig was suposed to use 2 supercharged V8s)

He stated that he used CGI for enhancing the explosions, the big storm and stuff. All the other stunts were practical effects pretty much. He built like 3 war rigs for this reason.

actually, the wheel and other debris were real, practical effects as well, however they were added in using a compositing technique under slightly different lighting conditions, hence why it "looks CGI".

I think it's just a case of something that looked good in the storyboarding, but just looks stupid in film form.

given that a lot of the vehicle stunts relied on complex mechanics involving deployable pistons attached to the undersides of the vehicles in order to flip them over in sync with an explosion, you'd think they could have developed some kind of precision launcher to hurl the wheel at the camera, or something. Or just have a War Rig crashing in that same shot, but then cut to a different low angle shot of the protagonists escaping into the sunset in the Gigahorse, while the steering wheel slowly rolls across the ground and falls over. That would probably look better.
