one good example of Pinkie Pie being almost as intelligent as Twilight would be when in Rainbow Rocks when Twilight was explaining in terms that no one could understand about how she'd get the mirror to the Canterlot High World working and almost everypony looked at her as though they were like "uh, what!?" and Pinkie Pie launched into her own hyperactive explanation in a way that the others would understand better. Pinkie Pie is definitely the most underestimated character in MLP: FIM.

Party of One made me really start to understand Pinkie's real character, and made her my favorite. Instead of an intelligent comic relief, she became a real character, and that episode made me realize how "real" the characters in MLP were.

One the whole Pinky thing, I also love and adore her, but one a personal level I appreciate more her altruism, then her optimism, yes she is positive in every thing she does and that is wonderful. But the fact that she does it not so ponies can like her, but because she wants the ponies in her life to jut be happy is what always struck me more, it is also a thing of mine to like altruists in general. It was in "A friend in deed", in the Smile song that it is explained that she is not ignorant to the troubles of the world, but it is because of this problems that she stays positive, so that others can find a ray of sunshine.

I think that in Party of One, the reason Pinkie Pie got to be that muted pink like when Discord made the Elements useless was that she lost the part that embodied her element. her optimism. Also, apparently optimism sickness is a good thing.

I always ask them how they feel about Pinkie Pie and they say, "Um...she's ok I guess..." It's not fair! Pinkie Pie does everything for everyone else and is so fun and the best! Great analysis. Pinkie Pie is what you'd call an ENFP personality, on the Meyers Briggs chart. Highly intuitive, but its "extroverted intuition" which is like a high speed idea factory, plus being able to draw connections from disparate pieces of information. Real life ENFPs are just like this but less exaggerated. They are also very much focused on how they personally feel about things but the primary mental function is their intuition. ENFPs are one of my favorite personality types, which is one reason I like Pinkie Pie a lot.

I like Pinkie Pie because I identify so much with her. I've always been one of the "gifted and talented" kids- it's basically a nice way of saying "she's super smart I swear, but easily distracted by shiny objects and can't focus for shit." It's Pinkie's character in a nutshell and I'm so glad you mentioned it. That being said, I'm surprised you didn't talk about Baby Cakes. That's my all-time favorite Pinkie Pie episode because of Pinkie's internal conflict. She needed to prove to everyone, including herself, that she was capable of responsibility. That's something I've struggled with a lot. Pinkie and I both come off as airheads and ditzes. Sure I can make it work to my advantage sometimes, but it's really disheartening to be the one everyone thinks of as incapable of, well, anything but math really. There's only so many "how would you still be alive without us to keep you from accidentally dying in a fit of incompetence lol" jokes you can take without feeling worthless. Seeing a character like me go through that and prove that she can handle herself is huge.

The grilled cheese episode though, was probably one of my most favorites of season 4, but I did also like alot of the fluttershy episodes too, funny, they are voiced by the same person! Unpopular opinion: Fluttershy is my favorite pony. It bothers me that everyone says she's overrated and the like. It just makes me sad that when characters get popular, they immediately get an equal sized hate train. Fluttershy is my favorite character because I relate with her. She's fearful of many things, so no matter what you fear you can understand how she feels. As someone with social anxiety, it's nice to see a character that feels the same way. Fluttershy is adorable and sweet, but she is more than willing to face her fears for her friends, as seen when facing that dragon. Fluttershy is undoubtedly the most patient and gentle of the mane six, though she lacks confidence and self esteem. Everyone struggles with self esteem at one point in their lives, so once again, Fluttershy is relatable. Plus, animals? What an incredible talent. She appeals to a wide variety of people despite her flaws, and there's really no reason to hate her for being popular.

I agree with you about Pinkie Pie being the best pony because over my year of being a brony, I've come to love her for WHO she is, now while I have different reasons for why I like her I can at least agree with you that she is the best pony in terms of opinion. Now the reasons why I personally beleive she is the best pony is because she's stands out of the crowd, knows how to make everyone smile, and she would NEVER do anything that would mentally hurt ANY of her friends and for those reasons, I also love her... in a romantic way no less.

Thank you for making this breakdown. It helped me put into words a lot of things i have been unable to sort through. Pinkie is kinda an odd character for me. She actually helped me come to terms with who i was as a child, something i have been struggling with for a long time. She even is my then-favorite color: pink (which i hated until MLP). As a kid, I was convinced my purpose in life was to make people smile- sound familiar? I stopped smiling and clowning around, becoming very introverted, after being ostracized and bullied for who i was. For a long time I convinced myself I was at fault. I came to think behaving the way I did, the way pinkie does, was stupid and naive. You can imagine how "Party of One"/"The Return of Harmony" struck me- like some bizarre parody of my failings. When I first watched MLP, I irrationally hated Pinkie because she represented everything I hated about my childhood self. Just seeing Pinkie now, after becoming an mlp fan, and knowing that people accept and love her outside the fictional universe is kinda... amazing. Your commentary on Pinkie's character is very insightful and has made me realize a lot more about her character, the use of her character/ character foils in the show, and myself, then I think your video ever intended. I assumed most of the 3dimensionality I saw in Pinkie was myself projecting onto her, but your video has shown me just how much thought and care went into building this character. thank you. This video kinda ended up another important step for me... I know you didn't intend for me to get emotional or see anything beyond the character building... but thanks for loving Pinkie Pie and sharing your insight, it helps me love her a bit more too.

Your opinions on Pinkie were quite interesting. I agree with all of them...and yet she's still one of my least favourite of the Mane 6, with only Rainbow Dash being lower. And the reason why I'm not a massive fan of her ties into one of my issues with the show itself--it puts a large amount of emphasis on the benefits of extroversion. Pinkie is a high-level extrovert. She loves parties, she loves hanging out with large groups, she likes to be involved with social activities. And quite a lot of the time she doesn't get that other people don't always enjoy the same things. Sometimes people would rather be left alone rather than interact with a group. I am a high level introvert. I prefer to be on my own, or with animals. I rarely interact with anyone outside of my immediate circle and if you dragged me to one of Pinkie's parties, you would witness the mother of all panic attacks. It isn't the fact that Pinkie is different from me which makes her one of my least favourites (my actual favourite pony is Applejack, not Fluttershy). It's the fact that she has issues accepting people who want to be left alone. And as I said, it's an issue with the show itself. Moondancer, Cranky and Twilight from the Friendship Games are all viewed as something to 'fix' because they just want to be left alone. If we didn't have Fluttershy, introverted people would get no positive representation

Actually, in the MLP book Pinkie Pie and the Rockin Ponypalooza Party, Pinkie Pie's parents come to Ponyville to talk to Twilight about a problem. In that book, Pinkie has a brilliant idea on how to fix it and her parents won't listen because they see her as immature and childish. So Pinkie ends up trying to change herself for her parents. She stifles her urges for all of her basic personality traits, so she does at one point try to change for somepony else.

pinkie id my favriot to. her being the comic relief makes more senesce then relised. she loves to make people/ ponys smile, she breaks the 4th wall. I think that she knows people are watching her and try to make us as well as pony laugh and smile

Have you seen the Extra Credits episode about Force of Nature villains? You should watch it. It mostly focuses on villain structure, but I think it's applicable here. Basically, forces of natures can't change, and can't be changed. The episode goes into much more detail than I can do in a comment

I really liked Party of One too. I have had that paranoia sometimes that my friends finds me annoing and loud. I try always to make my friends happy and that without even trying. It´s my nature. I have noticed I have a really good way of making friends with some really unexpected people. But not everybody can be your friend. In Friend in Deed. I guess we learn both lessons "some will not be your friend" but "some you gotta work hard for".
