I remember seeing this as a young kid and it scared the hell out of me. I actually had nightmares about it. As an adult, I can now see that the scariest thing on the show was Paul Daniels' wig.

This act stormed the Blackpool Magicians Convention in the early 1980's.............I have NEVER seen an illusion act leave an audience of magicians so completely gobsmacked. SHEER BRILLIANCE!
@EmmaEgg110 жыл бұрын
I know how it's done now but I remember watching all the Paul Daniel's shows as a kid and this is the only illusion that stuck out in my mind all these years later because I remember the end being such a shock at the time. In fact I thought about it yesterday which is why I sought it out on here.

Yup, THIS is the guest magician sequence that gave me nightmares the night after watching it on telly as a kid. A part of me hoped I'd never see it again...!!

@ALCARTHY Great performance, and I think this is a brave choice to make the illusion scary. Thank you for this professional work.

This looked as brilliant today as when I first saw it performed at Blackpool around 30 years ago. It created an absolute sensation. Thanks for posting - been looking for it for ages!

The people who think the method is "obvious" are fools. This is brilliant, and I am completely stumped.

it's not about figuring the illusion out, it's a an art, this is a very unique performance. it obviously took lotsof practice

I remember this as a kid when it fiorst was shown and I was terrified. fantastic to see it again. Simple but nice trick.

If I recall the Paul Daniels version, it was done to different music, The bit at the end has a sample saying "Frankensteins Monster" over buzzing and clockwork noises.

@bdf2718 Well Al carthy (the magician in this vid) has entertained for many years doing this trick,it is 30 years old and will stand the test of time ,you are entitled to your opinion but I will still remove "spoilers" as I have done with your recent post.

Absolutely amazing. Magicians fascinate me and you have an awesome channel. I've just subscribed, hopefully I can get some hints if I wish to try my hand at this. Five stars!

Superb :-) I love the idea and the way it's performed ! And it doesn't matter if one can guess a few things when watching the video again: the first time, the effects come as true and strong surprises ! Excellent job, very entertainig, very good magic :-))

@MavisRileyJunior did I say anything about camera tricks? my post was deleted so I can't read back. Anyway, I checked it again, and I didn't see any camera tricks, but because this is on TV there are (quite obviously) cuts. (probably picked by the director, not the magician), and I think the zoom on the robot did hide a secret (one you probably don't see in the audience, but visible when playing it back a few times on your computer)

I would like to know how the guy in the black outfit leans forward so far without falling over. I think there is a shorter guy in the white outfit and his head was below the shoulders of a costume.

@bdf2718 You would think anyone over age of 6 would read and understand "I respect the art of magic/illusions and as such any comments revealing methods to this effect will not be approved." In video info. Therefore I am suprised you complain.

This was done in the eightees, very advanced for its time, and no there were no camera "Tricks" or angles involved, it was pure illusion. "I cant work out how this is done so it must be camera tricks" Why do people say that?

@MavisRileyJunior I agree the use of a camera trick would be short sighted

"Fools" eh, you should watch Penn and Teller's Fool Us. They often explain how Illusions like this one are achieved. I'm still with you though, This IS a pretty cool illusion - so as much as if you don't know how it's done.

Great Act! This act was also featured as part of the "Richiardi World Of Occult & Illusion" show at the Felt Forum in New York City (Madison Square Garden) in the mid-late 70's. - Very theatrical and very eerie! - Thanks for posting this!

This is true.But it makes it easier for people to associate if tagged Paul Daniels.
@bdf271814 жыл бұрын
@MavisRileyJunior I did not complain. I was remarking on the fact that this illusion was so simple there was no need to protect it. In fact it was so simple I hesitate to label it "illusion" and think "unentertaining performance art" a better description.

I remember watching this as a kid, it was great then but if you notice the sympathetic edit at 16 seconds then you realise the show is edited down and you are watching what they want you to see, not what the audience saw. Still great though.

I remember seeing this actual show and I thought it was brilliant. Too many programmes revealing how illusions are done has ruined the art of illusion completely. So there is nothing to Mystify children or adults. For me that is sad when modern childhood has little thats magical about it. Also isn't video games in fact an illusion often created by a coomputer? Wheres the art in that?
@MavisRileyJunior15 жыл бұрын

@MavisRileyJunior Yeah, Paul Daniels usually included at least one unentertaining non-illusion guest artist in each of his shows. My guess is he wanted somebody who was really bad to make himself look good. Daniels wasn't as good as David Nixon or even Ali Bongo. Penn and Teller blow him out of the water (and often explain how their illusions work).
