To be fair I think a big part of the problem is the brain drain of Hollywood that came with the Young Adult genre. Writers stopped having to actually try because screaming girls turned up to the adaptations of their favourite YA novels anyway no matter how bad it was. So of course Hollywood thought that they could just blanket apply the same 'character' tropes wholesale across their output and get the same results. Honestly looking back at the Disney Star Wars trilogy in hindsight it does give me extreme young adult vibes.

It has to do with the licensing deal they have with Marvel for the film rights to the Spider-verse. In order to keep the license, they have to pump out Spiderman related movies on a regular basis. And if that means, taking a loss to hold on to that IP, they seem to think it's worth it. I suspect that's the main reason Spiderman 3 (Toby McGuire), Morpheus, and this one sucked hard. They have a timetable to keep, and they will run with the best script they have available. Which appears to be a rather low bar.

"There needs to be some women in the spider verse"...no, it doesn't. There is no problem if we have it (and there are plenty of good female characters in the spider man comics, so it would be silly not to use them) .... but there is no NEED to have it. You can have a great story without having a token character of every race, gender and so on. The only diversity that TRULY matters and that people should look for 'feeling represented" is of ideas.

When I first saw the trailer, I thought at least it was somewhat original, but the problem was it was pretty much a cross between Spider-Man, Black Widow, and s**t.

I see now it's going to take years before people realize what I have... There are not many good, young upcoming actors & actresses to take the place of the ones who've gotten too old. There are no Denzels, Wills, Tom Hanks, or Julia Roberts. It's over folks.

Saturating Spider man with anything other than Peter Parker destroys the brand. Get bit by a spider, now you have super powers? Guess there’s nothing special about Parker.

"Anything other than Peter Parker destroys the brand"??? "Get bit by a spider"??? What would Takuya Yamashiro have to say about that? "The man moved by a parents love. The man who risks his life for his promises. A man who bleeds for love. A man who sheds tears for the children without homes!" Beat that, Parker!

Honestly, I already hate the title. "Madame Web" is such a clunky, shoehorn-y way to squeeze something blatantly female in there-without using something like Miss, Girl, or Woman of course. On another note: Just the other day, I saw Rick Rubin talk about the difference between art and a commercial product, in this instance specifically meaning movies. Well, now we have a third category, that serves as motivation (or excuse) to make art: tax write-offs. Brave new world. Can someone please invent that time machine already.

Here's the thing : people who know Sony, and have paid attention to them as a company over the last 35+ yrs, already knew it would be trash, the second it was announced. Crying about it after the fact, doesn't make sense. They need to be forced to sell the Spider-man franchise back to Marvel, because they don't respect it....never have. Raimi gave us 2 good movies, and Sony has ruined everything since. The Spidey games....1000% Insomniac. Sony couldn't make a decent Spidey game themselves. They are an R&D and hardware company....have ZERO business trying to make movies, and their track record with the Spidey franchise is all the proof you need. One failure after another, with one of the most beloved and lucrative IPs in the world, is just pathetic.
@gsentinel48217 ай бұрын
I think about how Roger Corman made that crappy Fantastic Four film many years ago just to maintain the film rights of the property - I truly believe that most large film studios churn out this absolute garbage to simply maintain the IP - Sony is no different and we as film fans will always suffer as a result of it unfortunately. That is also why Sony is trying to maintain a “Spiderverse” without Spider-Man ??!!!! ABSURD.

There is just too many spider-people. Spiderman and his unique skills is what made him a great super hero, but these days anyone can just get bit by some spider and have spider powers. I use to be a Spiderman fan, but honestly I feel nothing but apathy towards anything Spiderman or Spider-verse. Basically I feel the same apathy towards anything Marvel to be honest.
