Miguel is trying to to the right thing but he hasn't researched canon events hard enough, otherwise he would know that some could be averted (like Gwen's) and both the world and the person meant to die can be saved. Miguel has been letting people die without looking into whether it's possible to save them, whereas Miles is determined to try and save someone close to him and his world. They're both heroes, but they're both flawed as well.
