Actually the album was the lowest point in her career in terms of sales. Her career was already fading and Grunge had taken over the world. No one was talking about Madonna but everyone was crazy for Kurt Cobain and Nirvana. An entire new chapter had taken off and there was no room for the PoP $tardoM product that Madonna represented. This is also why after the album _Erotica_ she had to change direction and began a series of collaborations with some of the big names of the '90s, from Bjork to Massive Attack and all the rest.
