I think it would be helpful to have a small image of your reference drawing in one of the corners of the video

Otherwise… ? I’m not sure why so many KZbin artists do this. Most everything they say is meaningless. A waste of what I’m sure would have been a useful tutorial. Frustrating.

freeze the video where he shows the reference > screen capture it > arrange the window displaying the youtube video and the screencapture so that they both sit nicely on your monitor. In a nuthsell: God helps those who help themselves.

8:25 you can tell how skilled he is, by simply seeing how much he is able to demonstrate. Drawing takes more of an internal feeling to get right. Most don't even know what they are doing. Yet he is able to illustrate how he is thinking, and that is a very powerful skill.

I would reccomend your demos to students as well as artist friends. Your drawings are poetic, atmospheric and simply beautiful. I'm wondering if you maintain those qualities in your paintings.

Youre doing a great job of converting your thought process into words. It's not an easy thing to do especially while you are drawing/painting at the same time.

That's the portait of Psarantonis! He is the brother of famous Nikos Xilouris, both Cretan musicians. He comes from Crete Island of Greece. I live there too. If you didn't try to make the portait of Psarantonis, then the similaritiy is more than a simple coincidence!

The drawing overall is brilliant. However, when its a tutorial with step by step guidance, it should have been less edited. At 10.50 minutes, there was no moustache, but at 10.51, the moustache and mouth were all very distinct. The process in between was not shown.

What a weird world, all these folks turning a room in their house into a recording studio-broadcasting station for strangers. Expensive equipment (not too bad, some items), lots of time. Sometimes asking for money for doing so. Comments left to tell what the person should have done differently, complaints about “content”.

“Hey, guys” There are two terms: Guys and Gals. But the word 'guys' has been adopted to include both genders. Of the two terms, why has GUYS been adopted? Why not 'gals' ? The answer is that there is a higher societal value to being male than there is to being female. Why are males bothered when addressed as 'gals' but females are assumed not to be bothered when addressed as 'guys' ? Why are women allowed to dress like men, but men cannot dress like women ? Why can women adopt men's names but men can't adopt women's names? There is a higher societal value to being male than there is to being female. It's SEXISM in speech and writing. Drop "Guys". The word ''Folks'' is better.

We ( I ) really do need to be able to see your photo reference as you draw. That way, we can get an idea of why you make the marks you make. Of course, that would mean training your camera lens on your paper so we can see it just as you see it. Otherwise,it is a demonstration but not really a 'tutorial'.

I'm an older senior. I've done some sculpture and some writing but never any painting, drawing, or charcoal. One afternoon, not long ago, I was watching a young woman in the park encouraging something out of a piece of paper with a chunk of charcoal. I watched and watched this cloud of gray, black and white....chaos, chaos, chaos and all of a sudden... a beautiful face.So far....pretty terrible. I wont quit though...even though you and that young lady make it look unobtainablely simple. Wonderful work. I'll keep watching, listening, and trying to learn. thank you.

One way to explain about the shadow detail is, You want to have a refined focal point so your drawing or painting reads like the natural human gaze. The viewer can only focus on one area for detail. That is natural observation. So you are trying to mimic the natural way the human eyes see. That is why you create a focal point in your work. The lost information gives them something to mentally engage with. Great job! Love your channel.
