The Relum Telly had two springs and the one I saw was very powerful. The 'top hat' piston weight makes a difference, as it provides the momentum that the light piston lacks in weight. I made one from bronze for my bsa superstar, shortened the spring and hey presto!

Just found your video , someone has sold you a pair of Tornado springs an airgun produced by FEG in Hungary designed in the late fifties early sixties went through several mods over the years but the twin spring tec was never really a success. I would suggest using an appropriate Titan xs main spring and replacing the piston seal with a TX 200 seal or contact Ian at Custom air seal Australia I believe he produces a seal to fit that covers the boss on the end of the piston this will improve sealing and reduce noise not sure the piston weight needed unless you decide to go for a shorter and less powerful spring. Remember the heavier the piston the greater the felt recoil. There has been a anti grease movement for the last forty years, but the correct amount of lubricant in the right places can work wonders for recoil and smooth shooting.

The best springs have fewer coils and come in more compressed, they are faster and more effective, I have even seen titanium which makes them much faster. 😮

Don't change anything as long as it works - and your "original" setup worked EXCELLENTLY, provided that trigger is smooth and predictable. And that amount of power (sub 20 J) is IDEAL for an airgun of that construction and caliber.

It was just an experiment for KZbin. The rifle is back to original now with the original spring and a trigger polish etc. Shoots well now.

I have a veeery cheap and primitive springer i bought used for 15 euros. In my country you can buy air rifles up to 12J energy without licences. I dont think it was making all the 12J even, what i did to get a bit more power was to dissamble it, ive "hand machined" a spacer to add between the spring and the trigger carrier to give it a tad more compression. I had to modify the the trigger because it didnt latch onto the spring catch due to the more compression. It does have a bit more recoil now, but the power definately increased. The seals are all bad and its really a shit rifle, but its much more accurate now and packs a bit better punch. Best thing, it cost me like 5cent nut that i grounded and drilled to fit the guide.

One of those kits frome ebay with green syringes I take it? Did you try running it with the factory seals? Because those "high performance seals" are absolute garbage. More recoil with less power often indicates a leak. Maybe also try to turn the inner spring around. Then again it could also be that the internal friction of the spring assembly bottle necks the entire assembly. I got one of those kits a while back and didnt have any luck either.

Hello my friend, I'm just beginning my journey, trying to rid my spring air rifles of twang and buzz from the firing cycle. Quite often, I buy things that don't work. Sometimes, I have to go back into the rifle for something and nothing or a minor adjustment. I'd say this is trial and error, and sometimes the gains you see are hard the envisage. Your video was great, just to be amongst fellow like-minded people with a common interest, knowing that not everything they try and do will work out. It's just nice, having a go, and when an idea works, it's great! Thank you.

its that piston top hat the extra weight slams the air out with more pressure giving you more fps.

@jimstewart5008
@jimstewart5008 Жыл бұрын
I have to wonder if you had the ability to turn down the top hat to fit the inside spring and remove a couple of coils off the spring what would have happened. I would measure the inside and outside coil widths and multiply my number of coils, and subtract the top hats length to the shoulder of the head to get the proper amount of coils and not be coil bound. If you follow me, it would be an great experiment. I believe you would get good results

I think you left out the plastic cylinder that should have been installed between the larger spring and the trigger body. I see that the plastic guide shortened the inner spring and the outer one remained longer. It has happened to me when I put a lot of grease in cilinder, my projectile speed drops, especially with Cometa airguns due to small clearances and tolerances. I personally use MoS2 long term grease and apply it in extremely small quantities and later only a drop of ballistol oil. If you want more power, install either a gas piston or a 3.5mm wire spring. That metal guide that you threw out because it stuck and caused the cylinder to jam. Take it to a master turner and cut off the hat to 2mm. It's a flywheel that gets constant speed without variation, but you'll get a bit more recoil.

I think that black bushing should still be in there ,the problem may lay with the installer not the product , the spring being shorter is prabably unloading its energy too early and think about it ! The origanal spring needed that black spacer and its longer , you put in a shorter spring and took out a block that is there to compress the spring , there for resulting in a lower pressure , i think you made the mistake not the product ......

That was a real shame I also did a similar kit on my Webley Vulcan some years ago, I'd been in my local shop and got talking as you do with chaps as I was a complete clueless shooter back then. Guy grabs this double spring kit of the rack in it's greased up plastic bag with the words get this in you're rifle it's the dogs B******S 🦾. Got home stripped the old spring out with no problems as I'd already mended a broken spring previously so I was well versed, put new kit in buttoned everything back up cocked the rifle and dry fired it once to test and all seemed fine except the muzzle sound was distinctly lower. Next day went off to the range proud of my achievement and no smashed fingers and started to shoot, my zero had dropped by four inches I grabbed a friends chrono and the rifle had gone from 11.2 ft/lb to 9.1 ft/lb with .177 8.4 grn pellets and yes I felt a right burk but learnt a valuable lesson to not fix things that aren't broken.
