My take on this is yes there should be a small chamfer on the breech to help feed pellets and help consistently load them with a little thumb pressure to seat them so the skirt is flush and won't get damaged but be careful and don't over do it, the chamfer should be kept small and not appear counter sunk. The reason I think this is because as you increase the depth of the chamfer you are effectively increasing the transfer port volume and this volume is a parameter which affects the pressure spike behind the pellet when you fire. The transfer port is an interesting thing to think about and how it might be optimised (length, diameter, profile, polished or textured etc) and has seen a lot of experimentation but you probably don't want to try drilling it out larger for example or really messing with it much at all. Making sure the breech seal works well and replacing it if not is a relatively easy improvement in that area and can gain velocity.

a typical 1/4" countersinking bit in your fingers works well too. done right it helps more ways than one!
@wdtaut5650
@wdtaut5650 Жыл бұрын
I wondered about that. Figured the countersink bit is made for wood, might not be hard enough for steel, even chineseium. I like the angle of the countersink, it looks a bit steeper than the deburring tool, so I'll try that first. Thanks.

I had a mixed experience with this yet! But if you cannot feed any pellets nicely in there and the accuracy is "meh" it is worth a try for sure... One thing to keep in mind is that the favorite pellets of your rifle will most likely change _[Noticed today that my Gamo was rusting from the factory chamfered breech after dispatching a wabbit.]_ _This is an interesting subject! Good stuff buddy_

light pressure by hand, go small and slow. when skirts stop flat or barely sunk with good thumb pressure, stop and begin deburr+polish. it wasn't easy to do on my Chinesium B3 because there isn't much room for fingertips working a drill bit, cant go large for its cone shape, but pellets load lots easier after doing.

Great tips. My Ruger Explorer had no crown and bad burr at breach. Had to use a pen to seat some pellets. Working now. Used whatever tools I had. Do not try this if you do not know tools. Metal is unforgiving. Go slow, test fire until the breach is smoother. Test seating with a pen. The pellet should go in with little effort when seating with a pen. Folks, this is why some guns are so expensive. The labor and skill intensive work and QC is done properly, for you. You pay for that. But if you have skill and tools, no problem to fix minor issues with cheap air guns. As long as the BARREL is good... Not gonna fix those troubles... Ruger Explorer now shoots 0.25" group at 15 yards, RWS Superdomes. CPHP now group 0.3" at 15 yards but some flyiers as usual, but the worst is only one inch. Pellets load smoothly. Good video.

Great information 🙂👍 and funny. Too bad for communist tube messing with simple good to know things. I did the same thing (chamford the breach) to my Walther Parrus 22 and improved it much. All 3 Gamo's that I have, all had good beveled breach's. I was thinking about doing a little video, showing how to improve the trigger on the Benjamin Black Lightning ⚡, but I don't know if they will chastise me for it, lol.

I use a pellet pen on my break barrel in the field because it is much quicker than opening a tin. I guess I need to try a pouch. I am on my second pen after I lost one while hunting. Any recommendations would be appreciated!

I managed it with my B3, barely room to twist a 1/4" countersink bit with my fingertips, took a while to open out maybe 1mm total. same for deburring with a 1/8" diameter fine stone using fingertips only. pellets sure do load easier

@ohshoot444 just looked at both of my gamo boxes. The one for my gamo magnum, and my very cheap gamo wild cat whisper. They both say made in Barcelona Spain. You need to look at yours again. I don't have my Crosman boxes anymore, but a Google search says some Crosman are made in new york, and apparently some are now made in china. So you may be right on certain Crosman models.
