I love everything about this, but particularly the line "until blue waters turn to green". What a poetic way to describe a ship heading to port from the deep ocean.

My years on a ship, and the sad loneliness droning on, the sorrow of those days. Rest in peace, USS America, sunk in the Atlantic.

There's another verse that's not in their version: There was a time When my heart was free Like a floating spar Upon the sea But now that spar Is cast ashore It comes to rest At my true love's door It's one more day on the Grey Funnel Line

Not sure which I love more--this version or the one from Silly Sisters. Either way, no other cover comes close in my humble estimation. Thank you so much for uploading this.

I don't know why but, other than Cyril Tawney himself, the best covers of "The Grey Funnel Line" are all by women.

June Tabor, when live in concert, not infrequently tells you something about the music she's singing. Here's more about the haunting heart of this song than I've ever heard: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bGKpemtspLtmp6M
