You know, I think that this might be my favourite ever piece of music and my favourite performance. I have a wide range of musical tastes and studied (classical) music at a conservatory and though I have many favourites, nothing touches my soul quite like this.

I'm addicted to modern arrangements of ages old folk tunes from the British Isles, many became Appalachian "mountain" music classics.....see Steeleye Span and Fairport Convention in particular, if you're interested

Forgive me for stating the obvious but age and ill health has not been kind to Tim Hart. He's clearly on form here, but less evident is Tim's outstanding breadth of knowledge of music and musicianship. From a young age he was highly skilled on many instruments as well as vocal, solo and harmony. As I understand, Tim died the following year, or thereabouts, leaving an irreplaceable loss. The perfect musical combination of Tim and Maddy as a duo represent the pinnacle of achievement in our British folk music tradition. Their work together has never been surpassed, leaving us a legacy of hope and joy for the simplicity of British traditional music for those who choose to follow.

just an average cira.1656 song! Martin Carthy did a version back in 1969 and Fairport covered it at the 1970 Philadelphia folk festival. References to Maypoles- some wooden pole which dancers swung around at festivals? seeing Tim Hart and Maddy Prior perform together again is spirituality to the one millionth power.
