@@Daniel_Alves1993 And I disagree with that. Made in Abyss is the most adorable most wholesome show I know. The adorable wholesome and joyfull aspects are a strong part of the show. They synergize well with the dark, brutal and sad aspects of the show. Riko knows that her decision to dive in to the Abyss will most likely result in a short life fore herself but she is willing to pay that price. And what she gets in return is exactly what she wants. She loves her Adventure. She found her happines. She is one of the happiest protagonists I know. And her love fore the Adventure seems to have infected Reg and Nanachi. They all cherish. And they all dived in to the Abyss by there own choice. Even Nanachi dreamed of an Adventure in the netherworld. Its really satisfaying to watch them enjoy there Adventure and in a way own the life they choose fore themselfs. And when they take an L they bounce back fast from it. Power of friendship at its finest. This adds a very positiv feel to the show. At the center of the show is this adorable wholesome, happy groupe of protagonists. Nanachi is wonderful example how the dark aspects and the wholesome aspects synergize well with one another. That her friendship with Mitty is so wholesome is what makes there fate hit so hard. But while its sad and painfull the love and dedication Nanachi showed in there quest to help Mitty is beautiful. And while Mittys death at Regs hand is also sad and painfull and the scars on Nanachis heart will remain its beautiful that Nanachi now found new friends to bring comfort and new joy in there life. Again watching the adorable and wholesome friendship of Rikos crew and how they enjoy there Adventure is satisfaying. The dark, brutal and sad aspects make me not forget the adorable, wholesome and joyfull aspects of the series. They make those aspects shine even brighter.

From the images, this show looks like a cute adventure with your tiny friends and it´s really not. Obviously, the fact they all seem happy in what they´re doing makes what happens to them even more tragic. That´s why I said the dark can cast a shadow on the good times.

When they first come to the golden city, Belaf's eyes are hopeful and crystal clear. But when he becomes the centipede, his eyes become mouths and he asks riko to trade both of her eyes. It shows how the abyss corrodes a person's hope

I CANNOT get enough of the scene at 1:12 where Riko blows her whistle and Ozen, Bondrewd, and Lyza are shown responding to it. Is it just symbolic? Can White Whistles actually hear other White Whistles from such an extreme distance? I don’t know but it’s just so cool, and then the beautiful animation and the incredibly fitting music/lyrics along with it?? That one scene makes me keep watching the opening over and over again, I love it so much!

This is now legitimately one of my favourite opening sequences of the last few years, partly for the relatively subtle and haunting way that the imagery is used-there's a lot happening which takes a long time to make complete sense-and partly for the music. I swear, the production on this track scratches the strangest itch in the back of my brain satisfied primarily by a few artists on the Orange Milk label, old FromSoft soundtracks, and any given single Kikuo happens to release every couple of months. (Yes, Made in Abyss fan loves Kikuo, very predictable.)

Honestly, there's no anime quite like Made in Abyss. This anime, honestly, made me fall in love with anime all over again. It went back to what the root of anime was all about back then: a work of passion and art meant to convey a meaningful story. Most anime nowadays have lost that meaning and are more for mindless entertainment and selling merch and games than anything else. Made in Abyss took a daring approach and just presented itself as is. It wasn't trying to attract a specific audience or sell merch. It wasn't afraid of failure. It was simply a work of art made by someone who had a lot of passion for his characters and the world that he put them in.

*SPOILERS AHEAD* I don't see much love for Vueko in the comments. She was abused her whole life, had no reason to live, had nothing to love, until she found Irumyuui. She finally found something not only that she could relate to, but that she could love and care for, and give her a reason to live. Then she had that taken away in pretty much the worst way possible. What she loved suffered slowly, constantly birthing children that died shortly after birth, until she transformed into a literal village. THEN she sat still in darkness for 150 (or 2000?) years. *THEN* she watched her loved one crumble to dust. _THEN_ she lost her humanity and died. Needless to say, she had it very fucking rough. And even through all that, she never stopped being a good person. Irumyuui's case is arguably sadder too, definitely more disturbing. This is the most depressing media I've ever consumed...damn.

I love how MA still maintains its pretense of innocence in its openings; as if to fool new viewers coming in late that this series is something cheery and lighthearted. Of course, people who have actually watched it know, but it's hilarious to think someone might just jump in on episode 7 of the 2022 season thinking "yeah, this should be fun." God, what cruelty.
