I have that genetic disease. Not as serious as she has, but in my childhood I had to be more careful than the other kids. Now I live like everyone else, and I thank my parents everyday for making me a normal and aware person. I tool that disease from my father, but we don’t know nothing more because my grandparents and uncles didn’t want to do the genetic test (an easy biopsy of a very small piece of skin). I’m from Italy and every year we go to the hospital in Verona, where they study the osteogenesis imperfecta disease, and everytime I see many children showing a strenght that many normal people don’t have. Yes, our lives are different and we live differently, but with faith and a little bit of creativity we can do whatever we want!

I have a genetic disease called Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome where I dislocate at least one joint every day and I still can't imagine breaking my bones every week. At least with dislocations, once they are back in you get some relief. With broken bones it lasts so much longer. I definitely have to respect this kid.

As a mother, I would not knowingly have a child that would suffer this badly. I take so much pride in watching my now 21 month old, grow, learn, play and climb everything. I'd feel horrible, especially knowing how bad it hurts to have multiple broken bones, after a car accident, I could never let my child live like that if I could help it.

Yes! She gets to live! Nobody likes suffering, but we all experience it one way or another… There’s no way to avoid it. Still, life is beautiful and worth living. Just as we encounter suffering, we encounter love and joy. In the end, it’s up to each one of us to focus on our pain or on our blessings❤️

While I'm sure there are many different life experiences, the ones I have read have been about children who led rather joyous lives and were well-loved by their parents. They are not necessarily in pain all the time, either--and if they are, it's not the end of their world, even if it might be for you. I've lived as an adult with chronic severe pain for about the past 30 years, and my life has been happy and not useless! Some may also enroll in studies aimed at getting to the genetic basis of their disability and thus may help future generations. In terms of being useful to society, reproduction is not an important criterion: there are more than enough people in the world! Get to know some seriously disabled children, as I have, and I think your opinion would change!

Who knows what treatments will be available in the future? In the meantime, she's taking it like a boss. Besides, people with horrible conditions can still have jobs and families.
