Welcome to The Ancient World series! This series is meant to summarize broad topics in history and balances political history and events, with social/daily life, and culture. If you've watched our History of the World documentary, this series is a perfect next step. The videos are standalone, but presented in a chronological fashion. The series will be divided into 5 videos about the Ancient Period, which we call Phase 1. Upcoming videos in the current Phase will be placed at the end of these videos. A slight correction, The founder of the Han Dynasty (Liu Bang 刘邦; Gaozu Emperor 高祖) actually choose Daoism or inaction(黄老之学，道家) as prominent philosophy instead of Confucianism. His son Wei Emperor (汉文帝) and Jing Emerpor inherited Daoism and then started a prosperous period (文景之治) in economic. Until Liu Bang's grandson the Wu Emperor finally choose Confucianism to establish a more solid reign and centralization society. At that time, Confucianism finally become the national philosophy. Anyway, thank you covered Chinese history with effort and accuracy.

I am from Zhongshan Daiwan village was born there back in 1929 went to school at age 14 then dad sent me to San Francisco he was American citizen so I'm citizen's son at an early age I was interested in Ancient Chinese Culture then at age 20 was drafted to fight Northern Korean invasion of the South suddenly it's 2023 .

I am Buddhist , the school I practise is Pure Land Buddhism. My answer to which dynasty in China history I like is absolutely the "Tang" Dynasty. The reason is because this was the gold time or dynasty when the Pure Land Buddhism school flourished in China.

Not at all. The horses themselves were native to much of Central Asia, including modern-day Iran. These breeds had long been available since the days of Cyrus the Great, long before Alexander was even born.

Only The horses inspected in the Bactria kingdom, the ones that China invaded for, were descended from the companion Calvary, either from direct breeding or cross breeding. There are historical documents and accounts that confirm this.

You will also have to provide a valid argument that horses of the companion cavalry were better than the horses native to central Asia. Now, it is true only the best horses were reserved for the companion cavalry, but what accounts for 'best' in Greece may just not be better than horses produce in a region renowned for producing great steeds.

They have list of horses and there origin. Then I want you to look up the saved documents from the dynasty of China and see how they describe the origins of these horses lol You can choose the website for your self. Now back to the main point, yes Alexander calvery was 100% superior in every way to the horses of Cyrus. Alexander’s army was designed to whip out the Persian empire. Cyrus had great horse great soliders, a great army. Like usual we Greeks just made our better and more superior in every way. How? Well let’s look at the fact that despite being out numbered, Alexander never lost a calvery engagement with the Persians. Why is that? Because we didn’t just have better armor and tactics but we cross bread our horse to be bigger and faster with high endurance levels. Middle Easter Asia and South Asia were not know for great horses sorry to tell you lol your horse were horribly versatile that you started breading them for chariots. NORTH ASIA, mongols, Huns etc they were know for powerful horses not Persia lol

No..Beijing is much older than this but it didn't become the Capital till the shortlived Yuan (ethnic Mongol) dynasty in the 13th century CE.

I think by "Shang character", he meant a character used by the Shang (but still, confusing). Also, another interpretation of the character's origin (quoted from Wiktionary): "The traditional interpretation is that the three horizontal strokes represent Heaven, Man and Earth. The vertical stroke is the king, the one who connects them together. Older representation of the character shows a man like 大 or 天 above a horizontal stroke. The modern interpretation is that the character is a pictogram (象形) of either an axe or a crown, one of two symbols of the king's power. A ceremonial axe was kept near the throne, and was used for performing rituals in ancient China."

there are two different ages in the whole chinese hisrory. one is the feudal era, and the other the era of imperial rule. during the period of yin/shang 殷商 and zhou 周, there had occurred very few uprisings of the commoners. on the contrary, after the foundation of qin dynasty 秦, numerous revolts had successively broken out. thus, autocracy by only emperor has provided not stability, but endless tumults in its society. in a word, "imperial rule" has to be the source of all evil as a whole.

Because ads were the primary revenue for TV stations. The advertisers were the ones paying the bills to keep those stations alive and running. Same with KZbin, though many content creators especially smaller ones on KZbin these day tend to rely on membership donations like Patreon rather than ads.

……AND, the terra cotta figures, themselves, were copied from Greek statuary of that time….Chinese scholars now admit that Chinese figures of that era were very simple-and totally lacked anatomical exactness (as the Greeks did); they believe that contact with the West (or, certainly with statuary from the West) had occurred, enabling the artists to produce the human form in a way never before depicted by Chinese artisans….

Mandarin and Cantonese is same language, even Haka, hokkien, Wu, are same, both these accent is variants of Ancient Chinese, The reason why everyone call Mandarin is Chinese because It is endorsed by the government. Known as modern standard Chinese accent

I assume by your name (and the way you write) English is not your first language. It is true that technically both Mandarin and Cantonese along with other types of over 200 (almost 300) kinds of what you referred to as "variants" are Chinese. And it is also true they all fall under being the same language, which is Chinese. However the vast majority of them are not referred to as "variants" they are "dialects" and in reality are not understandable by other Chinese who speak different dialects unless they take time to learn the other dialect. Having an "accent" is far different than speaking a different Chinese dialect. An "accent" is simply someone speaking the same language but having a slightly different pronunciation because their original 1st language (or region/dialect) is of a different area or kind. English itself has a vast amount of different accents in just the USA depending on where you live, but is understandable by everyone 99% of the time. Even the UK is the same thing. China they are "dialects" not "accents" because the vast majority of people who start talking in their direct dialects with another person who speaks a different dialect will not be able to understand it. And yes the current dialect Mandarin that has become the official language of China is actually a more recently modernized version of actually its own original self. Just like many languages in this world. Cantonese itself is older than Mandarin, however Hokkien is vastly older than any other. Again those are "dialects" of the Chinese language, NOT "accents"... they are absolutely not understandable by people who only speak one of the them. That is why the Chinese writing is so important and it was what linked all of China together. Without the Chinese writing it would be vastly more difficult to unite the multiple hundreds of speaking tribes together.

@@LyuChen94 I also NEVER said there were NOT dialects in ancient or middle ages. Cantonese itself is almost 2,000 years old which is believed to have originated around the time of the fall of the Han dynasty in 220AD. It is classified as Middle Aged Chinese. Hokkien is the oldest of all dialects and goes farther back than 2,000 years, though still classified as Middle Aged Chinese. Many dialects are actually Middle Aged since they are minorities and have not been tampered with like the original Mandarin that came from the region located around Bejing. However that original dialect itself was actually classified as Modern Chinese. Ancient Chinese itself origin is a subdivision of Pro-Sino-Tibetan, Sinitic (Chinese).

@@dmraven This is where I disagree with you， I agree that Chinese has thousands of years of evolutionary history, but I disagree that Cantonese or Minnan with a history of 2000 years. They are also one of the results of evolution. There is no evidence to suggest that Cantonese is the official language of the Tang Dynasty or Minnan is the official language of the Qin Han dynasty. in my opinion. Chinese and Chinese characters complement each other. And Chinese characters is a fusion character. The people who created Chinese characters did not come from the same region either

@@LyuChen94 Did I EVER say that any of them were "official" languages? I also stated that Old Chinese originated from a subdivision from Pro‐Sino-Tibetan that is Sinitic (Chinese) multiple Old Chinese. I NEVER stated ANYTHING about what language/dialect was officially or mainly spoken at any time. I simply stated when they have officially (by historical researchers) have been either thought, or proven with evidence to have began. NEVER did I mention they were the official dialect/language of that dynasty or area. You seem to either misunderstand what I write, or are trying to make my statement look like I stated something I did not. Or perhaps it is again the fact English is not your first language?
