And poor neighbours, it's 3:30 a.m and I guess I should sleep, although I'm so excited about these singing lessons I've just found ( actually a few hours ago:) It's really crazy, unique and amazing. I'm sure it will help me with my singing too. Thank you Madeleine and good night, Santra&cat. As a gigging singer myself, I have to say that was a really great way to explain the mechanics of singing that song well. You gave your audience the equivalent of a $200 plus voice lesson. But my experience has shown that those watching are probably going to be held back by fear. You have to really want to "go there" to do this song justice. On a different note, I wish Adele would make an upbeat song soon. These tear jerkers of her's are getting to me....lol!!! Really enjoy your videos. Bob
@MadeleineHarveyVoice8 жыл бұрын
Yay! I am always so moved by your feedback. Thank you so very much for following all of these lessons! And you are right, to sing a song like this well, the singer really needs to be willing to "go there"; o let the emotions rise to surface and explode. I mean, it's Adele!!! :)

I have studied for years also, but I am always looking for new vocal techniques to try. I thought about downloading some of your lessons, but I think that if I could work on songs from tutorials, i would do better. To have a technique for each song would be wonderful. I love inspirational music and would love to find some current ones to work on. For example, Carrie Underwood's "Something in the Water". Or Miley Cyrus, "The Climb".I would also like help with "I Know That My Redeemer Liveth" from Handel's Messiah Could you do these tutorials on video for me to download?

@haupiacake51428 жыл бұрын
Thanks for making this video. I watched it and your belting video again. My question is about the chorus and the crazy baby cry. When you make this sound, it's so strong it sounds like chest voice, but in your belting video you say that pulling up chest isn't the goal of belting. The forward resonance of the baby exercise does make it easier to sing those chorus notes in chest, but for me, that's not the most comfortable way to sing it because that's above my natural break. However, if I sing in a baby cry in head tone, it doesn't sound like your sound at all! This is such a confusing area for me, so if you can shed some light on what you're doing with your voice, I'd appreciate it. Thanks again.
@MadeleineHarveyVoice8 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for your question! I'm really glad you're paying attention to those details and are experiencing those sensations. In the Adele video, the baby cry is not chest voice at all. It is a reinforced head voice. Most people think head voice is thin , spread, or breathy..but the baby cry is an example of how strong your head voice can truly be. When your practicing, it's important to think cry into what feels like head voice. But be silly, absurd, and a little crazy. This will keep your chords engaged as your resonance shifts. It's totally ok if your baby cry is not as loud as your chest voice for now. Keep crying, and feeling the diaphragm lift exactly as you would if you were literally sobbing. When you've gotten really comfortable up in baby voice, see if you can continue to cry and gradually bring it down into your split resonance. Good luck! If you have more questions, please feel free to comment. Thanks so much for watching!
@haupiacake51428 жыл бұрын
+Madeleine Harvey I really appreciate your great response to my loooong question. It's amazing to me that you can get that strong sound from your head voice using resonance and support. I've been working strengthening my head voice, but it's not to that place yet. Thanks very much!

Hi Madeleine, I just found your channel *subscribed*. I'm a classical singer trying some jazzy pop stuff lately, but I find it hard to activate my head voice without all the, you know, "classical" sound to it. My head voice is pretty strong, so there is no problem there, just that I want it to sound more "sassy" and not so classical. Your crazy baby helped a lot. But I'd be glad if you could go into that matter a bit more! Thanks a lot for your videos!
@MadeleineHarveyVoice8 жыл бұрын
+frederike zwischengeflecht I'm going to be working on a video centered around the idea of creating a more contemporary sound. But just to help you out until that video is launched....The classical mindset of developing a strong head voice, and then bringing it down is wonderful! The biggest thing that will give you a different tone character, is to spread your vowels through a smile. (Instead of the classical LONG vowel MAH think Fran from the Nanny - MAH.) I know it looks the same..here's a video to demonstrate...kzbin.info/www/bejne/d2q0Y2ygZ8yfopY This targets your pharyngeal resonance. Don't be afraid to experiment...especially if the sound isn't "pretty" it's all about access. And sometimes we need to play with crazy sounds to gets us into new acoustic spaces. Hope this helps!

Why does it sound so out of tune when Adele sings "...other SIDE"?
@MadeleineHarveyVoice8 жыл бұрын
+Chilly Milly Thanks for your question! The word Side is a diphthong. That means there are two vowel sounds right next to one another. IIII and EEE. There are no rules to singing diphthongs, but one should linger on one vowel choice before making the other vowel sound. For example, SIIIIIIIIEDE. Some singers like to do what's called a vowel bend, and exaggerate an EE sound. At the same time, the pitch moves from B flat to A flat. While Adel is AMAZING...my guess is that she doesn't quite land on the EE choice and then moves the pitch from B flat to A flat. I hope that helps. Great question! Happy Singing!

Yes!!! You have the best approach! You have explained it very clearly and systematically. I didn't experience any confusion or feel the need to switch to another video while watching yours. From the first time watching this video I have already learned so much and my singing sound sounds lot better. Madeleine, I can not wait for your upcoming videos. I hope to see from you either some Florence Welsh song or any song that sings in head voice. I am sticking with you, you are my one and only singing coach I will ever need. :D Love it, love it, love it!
